Every two years these blocs would spend millions battling one another for control of the party.

This will happen once and only once -- 2004. Then the Democratic Party will splinter and go the way of the Whigs.

You got it!

The DNC will not die. Just look at their M.O. today. It's not about what they stand for but who they stand against (GWB). That hatred unites their diverse liberal special interest groups more than their differences in ideology divides them.

Basically, its a coalition of haters and hatred does wonders for fund-raising. The money will get thru.

They will find some snakey way around it. I have complete confidence in their ability to cheat. Besides, who needs money when you get so many freebies from the liberal press?

But I think the article is saying that the DNC will be ruled by the PFAW, EMILY's List, NARAL, etc., to an even greater extent than it is today. The price, for the Democrats, will be absolute conformity to the stated ideologies of the contributors.

The electoral problem for the Democrats is that the extreme positions held by nearly all of these groups are shared by only a minority of the American public. This is a recipe for re-McGovernizing the Democratic Party after its triangulating Clinton days. To which I say, bring it on.

Absolutely. This falls into the category of "Be Careful What You Ask For."

I'll believe it when I see it all fall apart.
That would be wonderful of course.

No kidding. I am positive that McAwful just decided to ignore phone calls from Haim Saban:

You have reached the answering machine of Terry McAuliffe. please leave your message at the beep.

Terry! Pick up this damn phone! I know you're in your office and I know you're listening to this message! Give me my 7 million dollars back you lying sack of sh!t! I just read that you're not constructing that new HQ. When were you planning on telling me, motherf&*#er? When I get my hands on you...

Beeeep.

The politicians will just find another way to collect contributions. We have an outstanding example of that out here in Kalifornistan!

CONTRIBUTIONS TO GRAY DAVIS LAUNDERED BY KANAKARIS?

For Davis this is just the newest thing!

I agree to a point. However, I think using scare tactics rather than holding viable positions or offering solutions to problems has some sway with people.

As examples:

Abortion and Gray Davis: even though a state governor can't do anything about Roe v. Wade; Davis may successfully scare tons of women into thinking that Bill Simon will take away their right to chose and interfere with their bodies. I know this sounds silly, but most voters can be swayed by such emotional rhetoric. Watch how this plays out.

Civil Rights and John Ashcroft: I'm constantly confronted by people who come close to proclaiming that John Ashcroft is the Anti-Chhrist. They say he is "scary". When I ask what in particular he has done to take away their Civil Rights, all they can do is cite general rhetoric that the spin-meisters have touted on TV or they go on-and-on about how he prays in his office. The whole thing is silly, but the smear campaign works with the uninformed (uninformed = a majority of Americans).

Social Security and old people: this is a classic "playbook" scare tactic of the Left. It's a classic because it approaches the elderly with emotional arguments and it works. With an increasing elderly population collecting SS and a more apathetic, non-voting, entitlement hungry, and uninformed class of youth nowdays, this may be the DNCs silver bullet.

As you can tell, I'm a pessimist by nature. But, hey, I live in Seattle so I'm looking right into the "heart of the beast" everyday.

i live in suburban Philly, so I know what it's like, but when left-wing liberals start spouting stuff like this it is, indeed, invigorating. Hang in there!
