So many have given their lives to serve our country and fight for freedom. Millions still serve today.
On this day, may we all remember and give thanks to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for those who are willing to do the same now.
No one today is forced to put their lives on the line by a tyrannical government, yet millions still do it voluntarily.
For love of our country and the preservation of freedom, American fighting men and women volunteer to serve and protect God's given birthright to every American, regardless of race, color, creed or gender.

That simple salute -- that single act of honoring his fallen brother and his flag -- encapsulated all the Army values in one gesture for me. It said, "I will never forget. I will keep the faith. I will finish the mission. I am an American soldier."

My high school friend, Jerry Georges will also be standing there. He never made it home again either. And a couple of my husband's high school friends who enlisted with him also never made it home. They will all be there.
