NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby designate Memorial Day, May 27, 2002, as a day of prayer for permanent peace, and I designate the hour beginning in each locality at 11:00 a.m. of that day as a time to unite in prayer. I also ask all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day. I urge the press, radio, television, and all other media to participate in these observances.
That is especially true of this one featuring you, HiJinx.
Our opinion of you already is a most positive one, and it gratifying to see how you were shaped,
what you have done, and what you have become.
My own two sons were military brats until they were 14 and 15, and always expressed appreciation for their disciplined upbringing and the benefits of living in so many places.
I always stressed not to regret leaving behind friends they made and locations, but to look FORWARD to the new ones ahead.
(They were fortunate to be just 14 1/2 months apart in age, so had a built-in Best Friend,
and were never really lonely.)
That helped them in adulthood, adapting easily to moving around as dictated by their careers.
Thank you, HJ, for exemplyfing the quality of our great family of veterans at Free Republc.
To those seeing this who are on active duty, we so appreciate what you are doing - the continuation you are of those who stand between us and the enemies of this wonderful Republic -
our beloved America.
We pray daily for you and your families.
