"with Jack Straw and Richard Armitage coming to the region in the coming weeks "
wonder why they want to take that long to go there? There may be nothing left there by the time they arrive.

Certainly India has some impressive Russian equipment..and if their Mid/life or in some cases..geriatric upgrades on soviet aircraft succeeded..they can field alot of aircraft.
However..Janes intel..Airforces monthly..and Air International..[Periodicals which track accident and battle losses]..reveal problems in flight operations of both India and Pakistan.
India has flown predictable recon flights..and lost aircraft..vectored response flights were shot down minutes later.
Helicopters..not familiar with terrain loitered..and were brought down.
Pakistan...training accidents galore..with similar..follow the leader entrance vectors into radar covered airspace.
Should these two countries go at it..attrition rates could be high..with initial attacks yeilding little in the way of collateral damage or nullification of intended target package.
I'm peeked to see how Indias Russian T-90's and their reactive armor handle the ordinance of Pakistans Ukrainian built T-80's.
Both countries have about 300 of each.

I may be mistaken, but they look like earlier MIGs.

Those are probably Su-7's, not Mig-21's. Su-7's flopped badly in the 1971 war and India had nothing further to do with Sukhoi till the Su-30 MKI came along.
