The system is not on trial. Edgar Steele said that the OSCF are "just folks" doing their job.
The Christines were not up against the system, the system may very well have saved their girls from a horrid existence . The Christines were too immature to admit that they had problems fending for their girls. The proof is in the medical testimony. They rejected all efforts of the state to advise them on medical and food needs.
Do your own research on the system in Oregon, quit believing other people. Don't be lazy.
I'm glad that you have decided to accept the jury's decision on the robbery charges and not question their decision. I do note my error in assuming that you would do so.
You didn't answer my question about what proof there was that Brian caused a skull fracture.
I'm still very skeptical about the weight and malnutrition charge. I have seen kids who are very slight of build, and don't gain weight quickly as children. The reports I have read say that the entire Christine family is of such a build. Is or is that not true?
Brian's words. Said he "swatted" her in the head and she fell headlong onto a metal step in the front of the bus.
You didn't answer my question about what proof there was that Brian caused a skull fracture.
As previously unpublicized evidence came out in the recent trial, that evidence will come out at the mistreatment trial. Without knowing for sure what happened, the concern is that the wound went untreated. They knew about it and have said so. That's contained in one of the recent articles posted.
You have some record of your children's weights, take a look at the ages and their weights. It's ridiculous to buy into the "slightness" defense. Testimony said they were emaciated. The medical testimony went unrebutted. The defense was motivated to rebut to keep the Christines out of prison, they could not do that. The jury would have been much more sympathetic to a couple that had not starved their children.
Testimony shows that the Christines refused supervised visitation for eight months.
Your recollections do not support your assertions.
Good God. What more do you want? This is a bald faced lie.
Who is lying?
Excellent news. They should be locked up for criminal neglect, never mind pulling a gun on state employees. Being their parent doesn't give you the right to abuse your children.
These ideologues who have knee-jerk reactions whenever the police, the DA, children, or criminals brandishing guns are mentioned, are not really conservatives but moral-liberals. The quacking, waddling duck can claim it's a swan all it wants.
Rina Diamond, a retired Department of Human Services worker, said the girls were in "pretty bad shape" when they were taken into custody. They were hospitalized for four days. Miriam weighed just 15 pounds and was "two days away from death," Diamond estimated, although she said she heard that from someone else.
Diamond said the Christines did not cooperate with case workers who tried to get the family back on the right track. They missed appointments and didn't undergo a required psychological evaluation for about 10 months.
Diamond thought it was strange that the couple didn't even try to arrange a visit until eight months after the kids were taken away. When they did, they always requested specific dates, usually on the first of the month.
On Aug. 1, 2001, the Brian and Ruth Christine got their girls back - with Brian allegedly holding a gun on two case workers at an Interstate 5 rest stop following a supervised visit in Grants Pass. The case workers, a man and woman, were driving the children in a van to a foster home in Bandon.
I used to think everybody felt that way. Some strange people coming out of the woodwork on this one.
Are the Christine's "perfect" parents? No. None of us are. I can tell you this, NOTHING, nothing is more traumatic to a child than being stolen from their home and family. NOTHING. The rest of you, welcome to the Socialist State of Oregon. [Source]
Miriam weighed just 15 pounds and was "two days away from death"...
A 'perhaps dying is even more traumatic' ping. Let's not confuse a relative good with an absolute one. Parenthood is a relative good.
Bump
Any system which is allowed to take children from parents and parents from children without benefit of a jury trial per your Constitution and mine is on trial here and should be. Does Post #188 describe a system which should be on trial?
You are a lazy one. If you did your own research and didn't parrot others you may have discovered that the attorney for the Christines had nothing but praise for the judge. Sorry but "the government did it" isn't going to fly here. The Christines had no rebutal because the medical evidence was indisputable.
Have you read Post #188? Perhaps you should read it first before calling anyone "lazy". The testimony on that post is quite troubling, wouldn't you say ? or do you only accept and advocate the testimony against the Christines to the exclusion of the testimony against the system that they were up against?
