So some SS receipts are used to pay for other fedgov operations --- how does that make these amounts non-debt? If in the alternative they were put in NeverGore's lockbox, would that amount of borrowing cease? Of course not.

It's still not a surplus. You're just cutting a strip off one end on the cloth and sewing it on the other end. A distinction without a difference.

If you were to succeed in getting SS taken off the books, then the excess collections could not be considered part of a mythical surplus, because the funds would no longer be part of the budget. Circular, no?

The Federal Government was taking in more money that it was spending. Ignore the accounting games for a moment. Under any rational view of money management, that is a surplus.

You're making that statement as if it were a fact, rather than a matter of dispute.

Ignore the accounting games for a moment.

The "accounting games" are what they're using to try to say there's a surplus. It's a myth, unless you can find the missing bux.

Well Medicare, admittedly I have a tough time with(I'm pegged as leftist go figure huh?) Social Security is an outright joke.. forcing people to safe for the future is a ridiculous concept espically since the return on your money is minimal and nobody can live on social security alone anyways. Medicare.. providing healthcare to the needy who can't afford it... I know it's the on the same grounds as social security.. I just have a problem letting people die.. and so do the hospitals who would be forced to take them in anyways as they already have to with low income families. But I don't know much on the subject of Medicare so maybe someone can enlighten me why it's better/worse/same as social security?

Medicare requires everyone after the age of 65 to get their health care (I hate those words) insurance from the government.
No ifs ands or buts.
There is no private insurance available at any cost cause it's illegal.
Doesn't matter if your Bill Gates or Warren Buffet.
Your on the federal dime if you want any care from any doctor or hospital after 65.
And I believe it's even illegal to pay a doctor out of pocket even if you haven't signed up for medicare.
It has nothin' to do with taken care of po' people and every thing to do with advancing socialism.

And of course as the government they get to decide how much to pay for the care recieved....whether it covers the cost of the care or not.
Don't get me started.......PC

you need anything on this i have tons of stuff. it is all very very sadly factual. when you begin to know what is really going on with the fed, you will see that ALL THE YAK OF ALL THE POLITICIANS ABOUT DEFICIT REDUCTION - NO MATTER WHICH PARTY - IS PURE CRAP. all it takes is for our treasury to start coining silver dollars and printing dollar certificates that are backed by gold and silver. this will cause real economic stimulus, that will take federal reserve notes out of circulation, eliminate the foreign banker debt, stop the control of internationalists over our foreign policy, etc etc. just as JFKennedy did for a brief moment...before he had his brains blown out. all else is crap, including the fabulous bush $600 "stimulus' joke. yes, he knows. mike g
