I just heard this on TV. Arafat wastes no time in backing out of any deal. Just shows to go you that you can't make deals with terrorists.

No. Terrorists need the benefit of the Daisy Cutter Doctrine.

So, what do you think? Is Colin Powell really this stupid? Or is he the guy to take all the heat for the
continuing stupidity? Seduced by the idiots at Foggy Bottom?
My ex-wife used to buy me those books-on-tape at a clearance place. "The Commanders" (IIRC the title),
did not present him in a very good light.
The first tape anyway. Actually, the second too, but the second was the same as the first. Probably why it was
at the liquidators.(Building 19 to those in the greater Boston region)

Good points. I'm sure neither the Bush administration nor the Iraelis ever believed that Arafat would keep his bargain on the prisoners. The Iraelis consented to this arrangement very easily considering they wanted these guys in Israeli custody very badly. The only way this deal would be worth it to them is if it was a setup for Arafat. Bush is still saying he will not meet with Arafat until he "earns his trust". Everyone - including Bush - knows that is not going to happen. As long as he was under house arrest, Arafat had the excuse (no matter how lame) that he was unable to do what was expected of him. That excuse has been removed. His people are mad because they think he sold these men out for his own freedom and they want him to release the prisoners. The U.S. has told him he has run out of 'last chances' and expect him to keep his agreement. This means he loses no matter what he chooses. Though I'm sure there will be yet more that the world must endure from this man, perhaps this is finally the beginning of the end for Arafat.

Laz,
Agreed that Aafat is a terrorist, Agreed that release of the two PLO henchman would be reneging on the agreement....and Agreed that if they harm our monitors (not guards) we should get involved......
But it is not our fight, Israel is capable to defend itself.....we could run interference with some of the arab neighbors if all out war is threatened.....
My heart goes out to the Israelis, but they haven't asked for our military help, only our political support.
If you want to go to war, there are still plenty of Al-Queda, Iraqis, Iranians and North Koreans still looking for a good A$$ Kicking....(maybe even Saudi's - those nationalized oil fields -no compensation - might be ours again)

Well stated.

No wall can be tall enough to stop mortar, rocket and artillery rounds nor can it stop snipers from firing from hills and tall buildings into Israel. Also, a wall requires a massive amount of manpower (ask East Germany). But the biggest problem is the lack of a real buffer zone, ala the Korean DMZ (10 km wide). Dick Armey is correct. The only way is to relocate the Palestinians back into the populations they came from in the first half of the 20th Century - Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon - and to restore the border to either the Suez canal or the middle of the Sinai and to the Jordan River, plus annexing southern Lebanon and setting up a Druse/Christian state.
