We know a lady who hurt her back with similiar injuries. She works half a day at home on her computer and half a day at an office on a computer. She is standing now on a good pad. They raised her computers to that she doesn't have to kneel and the monitors are tilted so that she doesn't have stare straight down. This weekend her husband will be raising her home monitor to eye level when she is standing. This standing seems to be really helping her.
Re the pain meds, if those are narcotic base, they will depress you. If you can handle a NSAID (Your doctor clears it, go to them. The over the counter meds work for most of us). A lot of Doctors use the relatively new arthritis drugs to treat their pain patients. The past two years, I have had a foot injury, a shoulder injury and a back injury. The drug Vioxx works great for me. It is not a narcotic, and a week or two of it gets me past the injury stage into the repair stage. A lot of feel that it is a wonder drug! It is an rx drug and needs your doctor approval.

Maybe there's a way to re-set your computer setup so you don't have to sit to type? (Just thinking out of the box here!) i.e. Boost your monitor and keyboard up on a couple of boxes at standing height...
I just love these stories from the others posting on the thread. I've never met you in person, but as one of the Bumping Bloodhounds, I certainly feel like I've gotten to know you well.

With this lady, it was basically a couple of bricks at each end of a 16 by 2 board. The bricks raised the board on which set the keyboard on one board and her moniter on another board behind the keyboard. The pad on the floor is vital.

A little bird told me that an ANGEL visited FreeRepublic, and saw what was happeining..and your getting a NEW CHAIR "ON THE HOUSE".. from this Angel!!!! (To think this Freeper goes by the name BADJOE, now "thats" an oxymoron!!! ;o)
From all the people here who have bought one, who had severe back problems but found great relief, I know your gonna be typing messages to everyone who wrote to you in NO TIME!!!!
That is pretty quick to stop all the pain meds,.. maybe just cut back. Or tell your Doctor how they are affecting you.. there may be another medication they can put you on. You know I worked in Medicine Budge,..and the theory is that when we take away the pain, the body can then send all its energy to HEAL, rather than trying to do its job by sending endorphins to stop the pain you're experiencing.
I'm of the school, and totally believe the studies, that show people heal faster if their pain is under control.
It sounds to me like your medicine causes depression, so that particular med is not a good one for you. Call your Doc hon. See what they can do for you. I hate to see you in this much pain.

I believe you..and think your an amazing person. You jumped right in and wanted to help Budge in any way you could.
Then from reading up on your chair, it is JUST what is needed. Really amazing!!!

I'm so sorry you're not well right now, but please know that we are all praying that God will relieve your pain and heal your back. You are so much a part of this site that you probably don't realize how much we all depend on you, but we do.
I know that pain is hard to deal with, it just won't let your mind free long enough to concentrate on overcoming it. But don't worry, all your friends here are asking God daily to take that pain away.
