California Housing Prices Hit Record In March. Median home price top $300,000 for the first time.

The only two homes in our area that went up for sale in the last 6 months, sold within two weeks, and they had mulitple offers. One was bought by a couple from Georgia, and one from a family from Ohio.

To all of those that sold their homes in the last few years and "fled" California, my condolences.

The realestate agent we know, says his biggest problem is, no one is selling, there is no inventory!

California may have a few problems, but it sure don't stop the people from wanting to come here.

Real estate prices are permanently linked to population. Population goes up, prices go up. Immigration is the reason for population gains. If you or your children want to buy a house, write your congressman. There is affordable housing, though. It's in Mansfield, Ohio, where there are no jobs.

I bought my house here in OC four years ago for 300k. A smaller house with less upgrades down the block just sold for 550k. I feel sorry for my 25 year-old-daughter though. She will have a tough time breaking into the market. We are planning on helping her.

Holy Smokes, I can't imagine having to pay those prices. I know people make more there than many other places but, wow. I'm spending a hundred and a half for my dream home along with 19 acres to surround it.

We just started receiving those, "I have a person who wnats to buy in your neighborhood letters again".

Nothing sold in our area for a couple of months after 911, but after the first of the year everything that's be for sale is gone in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, but remember, there are quite a few of the moms and dads both working, and here in California, that can easily mean a combined yearly income of 100,000 a year or more. Sometimes much more.

Califronia has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world. Your anti-California bias is showing through.

Yeah, but they can do that in Texas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, etc and still pay half.

Excuse me? $8.00 and hour? My son is a courtesy clerk at the local market, and makes that much.

And don't get me wrong, I love it when people have pride in where they live. If you like it, that's great. It's just a little haard on my cheapskate mentality to imagine throwing that sort of cash around.

I sold my Santa Clara house a little over a year ago, and I have no regrets. Sure, I might have made more if I had waited a year to sell it, but that would have meant enduring another year of endless traffic jams, etc. etc.

Where I am now isn't perfect, but I like living here a lot more than I did living in California. My favorite feature of life up here? The fact that everyone speaks and understands English! Another plus is the fact that I havn't had a single migraine headache since moving up here (I used to get two to three a year down there), and my problem with panic attacks has gotten much less severe. Needless to say, I am not missing life down there at all.

no no no you are wrong. California is terrible. awful. Everyone on free republic says so. And they all say they moved away.

That is an important lesson I learned here on FR. I'm going to teach it to my kids. If something isn't the way you like it, just leave. Don't try to stand up for anything.
