This didn't get a lot of coverage in the news,

That is an understatement! I had to look hard to find out how it went.

I used to work right upstairs from that corner, it's a great part of town.

I posted this article about a massive prayer rally for Israel, asking why it did not receive media coverage when much smaller demonstrations were reported, and you are attempting to turn it into some kind of theological debate.

I suggest you go over to the Religion forum and start a thread on "Who are these Jews praying to?" instead of turning this thread into your own personal pulpit.

Either Straight on Red is making a pathetic attempt to convert us, or he is a rather virulent anti-Semite who believes that we do not pray to God.

I would note that there are two more semi-appalations for God in the Tanach:
Adonai, and El Elyon.

Once again Freepers post the news first - and I have my TV on almost all the time! Thanks! Pray for Israel! Pray for Western Civilization!

My post most certainly did NOT translate YHWH as "the name."

It stated most clearly that YHWH = the name of the g-d of Israel, but that it could not be said aloud as opposed to put onto paper, until the messianic age.

G-d has a name. It is YHWH. It cannot be said aloud until the messianic age.

Why I take this much time with a cultic kook I can never explain.

WHERE IN READING ALOUD ONE COMES TO THE YHWH, one says instead, "ha-Shem," which DOES mean "the name."

YHWH does not mean "the name," NOR does it mean "I am what I am" NOR does it mean "ehyeh asher ehyeh."

As far as I know, it just a name, and if it does now or ever did have a meaning, G-d has never revealed that meaning.

If my name were "ZUTZ," and I tell you that, that is all you need to know. It is just my name, pure and simple. You could ask me what it means in some language or other, but I probably would never tell you even if it DID have a meaning.

Now go far, far, away and quit being such a pest.

It is tantamount to a prayer to the unknown God. If that is the case, what is the point? How does one implore the God one rejects, and perhaps even despises? What could one possibily expect to come of that? How does one pray to a God one does not even know, and has no name with which to address Him? Seems ironic to me.

Well, I tell you what, why don't we just be a peace and not fret about it. Your logic line gets a bit loopy in the above, just assume that those prayng have some understanding of Whom they believe they are talking to....as to the completeness of their understanding....we will leave that with the Perfect Judge of all our hearts and prayers.

Me thinks that straight is yanking your chains a bit. Trying to evoke the response that there is One Name that is above all names to which "every tongue will confess, and every knee shall bow." The name of God is Jesus the Christ. That being said, The Almighty God never changes, therefore God is still the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

God did not give Moses a name, He gave Moses a characterization of himself.

Moses asked a question, God answered it. If the answer was good enough for Moses, it ought to be good enough for you.

Now stop pestering people. You've used so many question marks on this thread that I'm forced to envision a whining two-year-old sitting at your keyboard. Take a nap already.

Is it because this group of people just prayed quietly instead of running amok?

It's true. If they'd all rioted, or carried nasty hateful signs, or left garbage all over the streets, they might have gotten three hours on C-Span like the communists did last weekend.

I was in Brooklyn all day long Sunday and didn't get back til late; but I don't recall seeing anything about this on TV in the little time I had to watch that night. Did it get any coverage on NY1? They're usually very good at covering any type of rally, parade, festival, or picket line in town.

1. The YHWH was pronounced in antiquity, and will be pronounced again in Messianic times. In their great sorrow and expression of loss over the Temple's fall in AD 70, the rabbis said the name was too holy to say with no Temple on earth, and the correct precise pronunciation was lost. The correct way of saying it will be restored either by the Messiah when he comes, or by Elijah just before that.

2. Messianic times means the times after the coming of Messiah, ie what Christians would call the time after the Second Coming...often said to be 1000 years or a "millennium" of peace and joy. Maybe it will last precisely 1000 yrs, or maybe that is approximate. One rabbinic source says 2000 yrs.

3. After that comes God's eternity, after the Great White Throne when God's throne and dwelling come to Earth to be among men for ever.

YHWH is not a name. It only refers to the existence of God. Yet the question is still on the table, what is His name? What is God, and Who is He?

What point are you trying to make, because obviously you are?
