Actually, the more I think about this, the more I think this was not floated by the Saudis.

I think the Saudis *did* float this. Abdullah is very worried about his waning power.
But it was taken up delightedly by the liberal press in this country. It satisfies their purpose of making Bush look like a weak leader.

It's not just who floated the idea - it's also who has a reason to propagate it. The latter are often more of a problem than the former!

HEY PRINCE.....THE RUPTURE WAS OVER 911! What is it he doesn't understand about the horrendous murder of 3000 of our citizens taking priority here? I think they're just trying to sidetrack us. It's someone elses turn to make "peace" in the middle east! We don't need their permission to attack Iraq!

Unfortunately, I suspect you are correct. Big Business owns our government and its minions. Whatever business wants will be done.

In a bleak assessment, he said there was talk within the Saudi royal family and in Arab capitals of using the "oil weapon" against the United States, and demanding that the United States leave strategic military bases in the region.

President Bush ought to tell the world that the United States will no longer protect the terror loving backstabbing Saudis. Something needs to be done about these animals now that they are directly threating the United States.

That won't fix it.

I doubt it would even help much.

By incursions, I mean the more than 100,000 Israeli settlers which moved into the occupied (West BanK)area which was not in accord with the Oslo agreement. This has really upset the Palestinians. They see the occupied area as their area, even though it is not autonomous.

The territory which Israel won in the 67 war, West Bank and Gaza is where the Palestinians live under Israeli occupation. This has been a 35 year occupation. Recently Israel has settled over 100,000 Israelis in the area with preferential access to water and other utilities. This is against the Oslo agreement. The Palestinians in these areas have no autonomy, can not develop an economic structure, there is no future for these arabs. They are desperate, hopeless and angry. If it weren't for Arafat, they might have already begun to have independence and autonomy. Barghouti sees co existance with Israel. Arafat wants death to Israel. Palestinians need a future. Remember that up to 30% of the Palestinains are christian. They are arabs who converted to christianity as far back as the middle ages. They are not all moslems. How can the Old Testament dictate to the world that Israel belongs to the jews, it can have no more legal standing in a world court than the Koran dictating that the world belongs to the moslems. There is no place for theology to dictate revision of geographical boundaries in todays world. I am glad that the Israelis have their own country. But the natives of that land who have been there hundreds of years are not cattle to be herded into a pen. They need a right to an autonomous life as well.

Arafat turned down the Barak Peace Plan and unleashed the armed, homicidal intifada. He's turned the West Bank into a corrupt armed camp fiefdom and the schools into terrorist incubators. As a result, the Israelis elected an inflexible and unyielding military leader to defend themselves.

Where do you go from here? Someone has to represent the Palestinians in negotiations, but the PLA and Hamas are terribly compromised. The Arab States use the Palestinians as if they were brainless pawns, which they have been. The only way we get peace is to replace the Arab regimes that promote Palestinian obduracy; starting with Iraq, and ending with Saudi Arabia, if necessary.
