Got to love the Marine Corps. Only 2600 protestors? They would have needed 3 times that number to overwhelm the 5 Marines. And I'm glad the Bahrain government is going to replace the damaged vehicles. Despite the occassional blustering in public, Bahrain is a friend in the Middle East.

If true, one should ask the marine if he saw the yellow flags of Hezbollah. Bahrain govt. scared of pissing them off too.

Do people in the military usually spill the beans like this? I have a friend in the military. He emails me sometimes. I get pretty much nada from him in terms of mission details, or other military-related details in fact.

Sounds like the Marines did all right. But remember what the (Texas) Rangers say, "One riot, One Ranger."

I'm wondering the same thing. And not a hint of this in the news.

It would be interesting to hear any comments the Pentagon might have about this incident, if only to confirm the story.

Just another reason Marines are put on this Earth.

It would be interesting to hear any comments the Pentagon might have about this incident, if only to confirm the story. The news accounts match up well. But someone could have taken them all from FR. Do a search on Bahrain or check the links above. I've posted four or five from the Bahrainian Gulf Daily News which is why I was forwarded the email from a freeper I assume.

I just heard Rob Soubhani, Georgetown prof, say on FNC this morning how much they loved us and support us in Bahrain.

Five Marines taking on three thousand Arab fanatics? That is overkill on the part of the emabassy. Report this excessive use of manpower to the Commandant immediatly!

Like Qatar, Bahrain is a small country sitting between giatns Saudi Arabia and Iran. Both are supportive of the US, both are scared of its neighbors, and some of the locals they control:
Emir of Bahrain praises the 'good fight' to liberate Afghanistan and calls for Palestine
THE Emir of Bahrain yesterday became the first Arab leader to call the fighting in Afghanistan a great war of liberation.
"I am so happy America and Britain are going into Afghanistan," he said. "Liberating it from this evil Taliban will only be good for women, men and children. It is a very good war of liberation.
....
Arab states must ensure that the war against terrorism did not become a war of religions. "In Saudi Arabia and Yemen even a strange goat is suspicious, there is more resentment against the West. Here we are an island, we are used to different peoples, we must lead the way."
The Emir said the issue of a Palestinian state should not be mixed up with the war on terrorism. "It is nothing to do with bin Laden and his gang. I am confident that the two states, Israel and Palestine, will soon co-exist.
"It would be a great help to the allies if these two states were created quickly, to bring back the support of the Arab world that the West has lost. If we do the right thing in Afghanistan, we must also do it in Palestine."

Y'know, I wasn't too sure about its authenticity either--I was trying to shoot it down too. However, only a Marine would write a sentence like this:
After the fires were secured the Marines pulled back into the embassy and continued to force the protestors back onto the highway behind the embassy.
I'm not busting on the Marines. I'm just saying that that little sentence construction weighs in favor of it's being true....
