"The memo was unearthed by the Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch."

I love that!

Rick Ramirez cane forward with the complaint, he retained an attorney who eventually recommended that Rick contact JW.

Once there was a hearing scheduled, Sanchez-Roig came forward and revealed the memo to JW.

Unearthed by JW my a$$!

Elian will help elect a GOP governor in Florida soon

Well, he was, IMO, directly responsible for electing a GOP president in 2000. You have a sense of the Cuban-American community in Florida - how many votes did the GOP pick up in that community because of the Elian raid? 800 votes is all it took to change the course of history...

Clinton split the Cuban vote, Elian brought them all home again...to stay.

Trusted Kennedy once, and we got screwed...voted for Clinton, and we got screwed...

We're good for another thirty years or so.

Hmm, I knew the wet feet dry feet bit but didn't know it was Castro/Cuba that set the quote (I'm an idiot, that should have been immediately obvious just like the intent of the Berlin Wall).

Mypersonal tinfoil hat theory regarding the kid goes like this. Why would Castro give an airborne rodents posterior region about this one particular kid? Lots of kids leave Cuba each year. Why this one kid? His 'parents' weren't even married when he was conceieved. He was conceived via IVF. (Given Cuba's disastrous healthcare system, how unusual is that?!).

I happened to be watching LifetimeTV (shoot me please), and the story about the fertility doctor in VA (I think) came on. Apparently all these people had been going to this doctor for IVF and amazingly enough all their kids had the same genetic eye defect (lazy eye I think) that caused them to have to wear a patch. One of the moms got suspicious and the end result was that this particularly egotistical fertility doctor had been substituting *his* squigglies for that of the 'real' fathers all along. Perhaps this kid really *is* Castros kid and there is a nasty sort of Boys From Brazil program under wraps down there.

I just know (from what I gleaned from the press, this was pre-freep for me) that in FL courts, any child born out of wedlock would be subject to a paternity blood test in order to determine custody. This might explain why Bubba and friends were so blatant about keeping this particular case *out* of FL family court even though similar cases before, during and immediately after the Elian saga *did* go through FL family court with no problem. They knew (or had been told) that the kid wasn't Juan Miguels. (Yes I know, they are very similar in appearance, but how difficult would it be to tell a 'nordic' child belonged to a particular father if they both had blond hair and blue eyes?) Perhaps this explains why Castro took so desperate an interest in this one child (when he'd drowned a whole boatload of them w/o remorse previously) and used the ADM negotiations to demand something be done to get Elian back in Cuba. If this kid *is* Castros kid he may yet fulfill the prophecy of saving his people.../tinfoilhat

The Mystical Power of Elian

Remember, it isn't about what Fidel believes, it's about what the Cuban people believe.

Hmmm, I'm not sure *I* believe but I'm not Cuban. My 'adopted Cuban grandmother' believes tho. She despises Castro and still gets all worked up and tearful if anyone mentions Elian. Hopefully the kid got enough of a taste of freedom that he'll do something useful for Cuba. It only takes one with heart, who believes, to do miracles.

In his childhood, William Wallace stayed with his uncle, the priest of Dunipace for a brief time. This priest's favorite saying he taught young William was: My Son, I tell thee soothfastly, there is no gift like to Liberty; Then, never to live in slavery!. Perhaps Elians uncle told him something similar that will stay with him. Cuba could certainly use a Wallace.

That is a scary scenario. My son looks so much like Elian we've endured jokes and comments about it since he first came to the media's attention. Now I'll have to double check the family tree to make sure we're not related to Fidel in any way shape or form.:)

Exactly. Had they revealed that there was evidence that Juan Miguel was acting under duress, there would have been validity to Elian's asylum petition. And for the Clintonistas, with a clear knowledge of this potential duress, to allow Castro's goons to come to this country and control Juan Miguel's movements, is one of the most despicable actions of a completely despicable administration. If Juan Miguel had been free to appear in court and ask for his son to return with him to Cuba, I would have accepted that with few reservations. But that never happened...
