The Israel seminar posters have been running around this forum for months calling freepers antisemites, bashing the Catholic church, defending the ADL, defending Clinton crook Rahm Emmanuel, bashing Norweigans, French, Dutch, Brits, the Pope, Christians in the Church of the Nativity, Colin Powell, Geore W. Bush, Billy Graham, Henry Ford, America itself (the St. Louis tragedy), defending the ACLU, defending a Jewish ladies group which sued to stop "Choose Life" license plates because they "promote Christian fundamentalism" and trashing a host of others.
We are supposed to sit back, take all that and say nothing about what Israel does and has done?
This forum is becoming a Berkeley ethnic studies classroom.
"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as Commanding Officer, USS Liberty (AGTR-5) in the Eastern Mediterranean on 8-9 June 1967. Sailing in international waters, the Liberty was attacked without warning by jet fighter aircraft and motor torpedo boats which inflicted many casualties among the crew and caused extreme damage to the ship. Although severely wounded during the first air attack, Captain (then Commander) McGonagle remained at his battle station on the badly damaged bridge and, with full knowledge of the seriousness of his wounds, subordinated his own welfare to the safety and survival of his command. Steadfastly refusing any treatment which would take him away from his post, he calmly continued to exercise firm command of his ship. Despite continuous exposure to fire, he maneuvered his ship, directed its defense, supervised the control of flooding and fire, and saw to the care of the casualties. Captain McGonagle's extraordinary valor under these conditions inspired the surviving members of the Liberty's crew, many of them seriously wounded, to heroic efforts to overcome the battle damage and keep the ship afloat.Subsequent to the attack, although in great pain and weak from the loss of blood, Captain McGonagle remained at his battle station and continued to conn his ship for more than seventeen hours. It was only after rendezvous with a United States destroyer that he relinquished personal control of the Liberty and permitted himself to be removed from the bridge. Even then, he refused much needed medical attention until convinced that the seriously wounded among his crew had been treated. Captain McGonagle's superb professionalism, courageous fighting spirit, and valiant leadership saved his ship and many lives. His actions sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
The people at Berkeley are unabashed supporters of Palestinians, of the Taliban, and the Democrat Party.
Larry, I'm sorry the fact that some folks support tiny Israel against murdering bastards who would kill us all if they got the chance bothers you.
The USS Liberty has been talked to death on this forum. To absolute death.
Moreover, the government is NOT going to investigate it, no matter how many petitions are presented. An investigation would satisfy the radical Arabs and serve up the Israelis on a silver platter to the cowardly Euros.
That is the exact type of comment to which I referred. Character assassination. Assigning thoughts or motives to others which do not exist. It is dragging this forum down.
Why not call me a Nazi too? That is the usual MO. Freep mail a dozen of your friends and have them reinforce what you say. Post comments I made on other threads on this one.
One can defend Israel without trashing the United States. One can defend Israel without bashing the Pope, without suggesting as one freeper did that Powell is the biggest threat there is to American security and Israel should drop an Atomic bomb on Germany for what Germans who are dead already did to Jews 60+ years ago.
The Israelis apparantly suspected as much, because their troop movements were suddenly being effectively countermoved upon the arrival of the Liberty, whereas before its arrival Israel had been able to outflank the Egyptian forces easily.
The danger to Israel was that as they were redeploying troops north to combat Syrian aggression, if Egypt found out about it Egypt may have pressed harder (knowing that the front lines were thinner), and Syria would have found out and pressed harder before the troops could be fully deployed.
War is hell.
Or maybe you have been just as fooled as the Arab states into believing it.
Stopped in it's tracks by Israel, eh? That's pretty funny turnabout. It's obvious that the Arabs stepped up the homicide bombers to force Israel's hand in an effort to avert the war on Iraq. But maybe our boys aren't as dumb as you think... Maybe we needed the time to resupply, and now they think they have us where they want us, when in reality we are pressing on as earnestly as ever.
Hmmmmm.... I think you've hit on somethiing there wardaddy.
Lol..everyone bashes the French. And you haven't piled on as some have. Your evenhandedness is probably the majority view too. But the fanatics who see antisemites under every bed and who always have the last word are so vocal, they are the impression people have of Israel and Jews on this forum.
And that is not good for Israel. Nor is it good for advancing conservatism as this forum was designed to do. More than a few old posters have left in disgust. Ihang around because no one is going to call me a Nazi without a rely. Running away when names are called is how people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton created empires.
do ya think ?
You do the very thing you accuse me of doing.
You and I are usually on the same side, Larry. For some reason, the cheerleading for Israel bothers you.
You don't want the United States brought down by a defense of Israel.
I'm not real sure what else, at this point, the United States can do. The Palestinians are on the side of al-Qaeda and Hamas and Hezbollah.
The Israelis are trying to keep their population from being destroyed, five or six or ten at a time as they go about their daily lives.
I meant no "character assassination" or anything else sinister.
But we cannot walk away from defending Israel. Not if we have any conscience.
Those damn Jews, and the crazy Christians that support them, are ruining our President's plans. What Israel is doing now is preventing our great President from getting his coalition together to fight Iraq. Damn Amen corner. American first.
Signed a Brigadier, today.
Those damn Jews, and the crazy Christians that support them, want the US to fight Israel's wars. We have nothing against Iraq. Our President is just a puppet of Israel. We shouldn't attack Iraq. Only Israel and her supporters want us to attack Iraq. Damn Amen corner. American first.
