If you have ever seen the California state constitution, which can be found on the web, it's a complete mess. One of the worst-written, most-meddled-with of all state constitutions. It has the look and feel of a document that's been repeatedly hacked away at by legislators, and has none of the elegant, grand design that many other state constitutions have.
Also, California is one of only a few states to have no Right to Keep and Bear Arms article in its state constitution, which should tell you something. (New York is another such state.)

I have two words for the idiots that oppose home schooling: Thomas Edison

California education code does not address home-schooling and is considered by the state to be "unauthorized." The compulsory education law which dates back to 1874 requires "each person between 6 and 18 years of age to attend public full-time day school ... I am confused. Did not the Supreme Court rule in Yoder v State of Penn, that compulsory attendance law was unconstitutional?
This snip from the article is surely not California's legal position, is it?

Can I home-bump this thread or do I have to get government permission?

Carol Guardia, a former child welfare and attendance coordinator for Sacramento County insists district officials are merely looking out for the educational welfare of the students. "For every competent home-schooler out there, there are 300 who are not, using it for an excuse to keep their kids home," What exactly does an "attendance coordinator" do?
Between her formal job title, and her arrogrant attitude about homeschooling, it's apparent that she is nothing more than a communist servant to the Kalifornia tyrants.

Essentially, at least from the tone of the article, the bureaucrats in California are saying: " Your child is the property of the State, to which the State can do whatever it pleases. "
