Best belt fed gun for quality, parts and reliablility is the DIA/Catepillar/RAMO manufacture of the .30 cal. M1919A4 or A6. They have kits and spare parts for thousands of years, they can be converted to fire 8mm , 30-06 Springfield, or .308 WInchester.

Quality M1919A4's run $6,500 to 8,000 nowadays. Want one? I have one for sale with ALL accessories.

Wouldn't it be easier to just go mine the iron, build a smelter, haul the machining equiptment up to some mountain top that the feds forgot about, and build one yourself from scratch? ;-)

You are seriously proving my point, and I would buy one, but for two problems;

I cannot fire it/own it/possess it at our family farm, in NY;

My wife would kill me.

Hell, easier than that, you can order blueprints for mechanical drillings of the sideplates of any of John Browning's Machine guns and buy a no-paperwork parts set.

Theoretically you can build a very reliable belt fed machinegun very easily, but it is not worth it.

Remember, NFA violations will get you 10 years in prison and a $200,000 fine PER VIOLATION.

REMEMBER PEOPLE: Don't mess with the ATF, the killed Vicky Weaver's wife over a 3/8" cut short on a short barrelled shotgun, and they burned to death children and mothers at Waco over some damn drilled AR15 receivers and hollowed out dummy grenades.

Dont mess with ATF, stay legal, pay the damn tax, and don't throw your life away.

If you don't like the NFA gun laws now, get off your ass and vote for pro-gun conservatives such as John Ashcroft. Quit bitching about the system until you vote the bastards out who came up with the insipid laws.

If it were up to me I think you should be able to walk into a gunstore and buy anything you are capable of "BEARING" out the front door...and if you commit ANY crime with that weapon, you lose your rights to own a firearm, and spend the rest of your days breaking big rocks into small rocks.

Full auto guns are not a/the problem, criminals are.

Nuff said.

Now if you can't afford the pig, you can always go to Dover Foxcroft in Me third weekend of july, put your money down and fire a hundred round belt.

I plan on doing that.

John Ashcroft is "pro gun"? That sure is news to me, and I'll bet to Mr. Emerson.

Yes. I want one (M-60 machine gun). Why was it confusing?

I was just watching a World War II movie today. I was thinking about all the soldiers and the automatic firearms they were carrying. All of them were risking their very lives being on the battlefield just to turn their automatic firearms in (if they lived) and go back home. I wonder how many of them resented turning their weapons in?

The reason you can't go to the nearest gunshop and buy a brand new one is because 80 million gun owners[less the NRA, GOA, SAS Etc. members] would rather vote for their pocketbooks than their freedoms.

I would not include the NRA on your list - they seem to be pretty well entrenched in somebody's pocket.

I have taken to calling it the Hiram Maxim birthdya party, but on the third weekend of July Outside the town of Dover Fox Craft, there is a Machine Gun Shoot conducted by the Hiram Maxim Society.

I have seen things fired there that I had only read about before, but for three days they shoot all sorts of automatic weapons.

The smell of cordite is heavy in the air.

Do a google search for the Hiram Maxim Historical society and you can find out more information .

Better than an M-60 pig, would be the M-249 SAW in 5.56 or more closely approximating the pig in nominal capability (and weight!) the 7.62mm M-240G MMG. Either of these is more reliable, accurate and has better grunt ergonomics.
