I don't know about all that. That's a matter of theology for most people. I DO know that you were mistaken in your reference to Paul, hence my post. When Paul said,

Acts 23:5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

it seems clear that it is intended as an explanation for his misstatement because he is clearly saying, "Hey! I didn't know that he was the High Priest because I wouldn't do that knowing what the Scripture says about speaking evil of one's ruler". Sounds like a, "Sorry!" to me.

Paul doesn't sound to me like he is really sorry for what he said..... as much as he's sorry that this jerk turned out to be a "high priest"......;
"I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest"

So perhaps it is YOU that are mistaken in your interpretation of what Paul says.... but more importantly I was addressing the overall conclusion that this somehow supports the claim that criticizing Israel brings us under God's curse.
That was the original argument I was answering.

How to apply the "lesson" from this exchange wasn't my concern, just accuracy of the comment that this episode never happened.

I already conceded that Paul did indeed make that statement. My mistake for thinking it was a reference to Jesus, who made an almost identical statement earlier in the NT. I apologize. Can you ever forgive me?

Sharon should finish the job; otherwise the terrorists will think Israel forever weak. The peace process is a joke, a king without clothes. Someone has to dictate the end game nothing else will work. Sharon should arrest the idiot Arafat and get as many of the terrorist leaders as possible. Then he should make the West Bank a territory and install a military government and only after the Pals. show some sense should he grant them limited participation in a territorial gov't. The US and others should have the follow through to create employment opportunities in the West Bank; after all we are sending all our manufacturing offshore anyway.

Hey dufus, 100% of what is now the United States would be defined as "occupied territory" by the UN. We stole this land fair and squre from the Indians and the Mexicans because the Indians and the Mexicans weren't tough enough to stop us.

Israel has a right to occupy any land that it can occupy. They don't want Palestine. Jordan didn't want it either. It is a hotbed of anarchy. The ONLY time there is law and order in what is the "occupied" territories is when the Israeli tanks roll in. Otherwise the land is in a complete state of chaos.

The Palestinian people should pray that Israel captures their land and annexes it like we annexed the entire Western half of this Country. At least if they were ruled by the Israelis they'd have some rights. They might even have an economy.

Right now they only have their hatred of Jews to keep them going. That will only lead them to hell.

FR is fine. What does it matter if a Freeper doesn't agree with you. I intend to wait and see what happens. What kind of control over the situation do you think Bush has. I am sure there is plenty going on that we don't know about.

It's not just this, there have been a pattern of things over the past few months, that have many of us scratching our heads about Bush.

He may not have much control, but we don't have many friends over there in the middle east. Israel is our #1 friend there. So what do we do? We appease Saudia Arabia, you know, the ones who hate us, from which many of the 9/11 terrorists came from, the ones who directly or indirectly funded OBL. It's not just the ads that Bush's administration is running, you know, the "drugs are paying for terrorists" that they are trying to smokescreen us away from the fact that much of the money came from Saudi Arabia. It's not just Bush ignoring the fact that Saudi Arabia is sending money to the PLO, and the suicide bombers' families, like Iraq. It's a whole series of things.

What Bush is doing right now, is going to come back and haunt us. Whether it's CFR, immigration, stem-cell, his support of the Arab countries/PLO over Israel, or whatever, it'll haunt us.

"The terrorists must be stopped and Israel has the right to defend itself"

i agree wholeheartedly, this is total insanity for the U.N. to demand that Israel leave. The U.S. would do the same if it was being attacked with suicide bombers like Israel. What if the U.N. demanded we leave Afghanistan????

i have figured it out.

king george is a "republican".

that means that all conservatives are to immediately shut off their brains and march in lock step supporting him.

because he is a "republican".

BS!!!!!!

call it like i see it and i see king george as a RINO, and a two-faced politician and a liar.

and he has no respect for the Constitution, along with being no friend of Israel.

CFR

The Patriot Act

increases across the board in government spending

injcrease in powers of LEOs

illegal aliens to legal residents

refusing to call afathead a terrorist

allowing two UN resolutions condmning Israel to be passed by the UN with the US voting for them both

do i need to mention anything else?

all hail king george

"Bush just stole something precious from the Israelis today--their safety and protection."

If that's what the net effect of it is, then you are right and Bush has done the wrong thing. A lot depends on the details. One thing Israelis want is an end to suicide bombings, or at least a severe diminising of them. We've had that for a few days, and I take this as evidence that what the Israelis are doing now works. That's good. Suppose they now try pulling back and, as the president put it, watch for responsible Arab parties to prevent further suicide attacks. They could negotiate for extradition of terrorists to Israel for trial and jail if convicted. But, in any case, Israel could revert to their current stance on very short order, and that's what leaves their safety and protection intact and in their own hands.

oh. if we disagree with king george, we are bush bashing.

read somebody the other day who made a real good point.

said look at everything king george had done, and pretend you didn't know the party in the office and what would you conclude as the party in the presidency?

funny thing you would have to figure on it being a democrat.

Good post. Bush supporters remind me of Clintonites in so many ways.

Of course it doesn't sound that way to you because you have to save face! LOL. You didn't even know the section existed until you were told about it.
So perhaps it is YOU that are mistaken in your interpretation of what Paul says....
Wow, now you have your bold misstatement all turned around to be my fault! Gee, dude! Calm down!
but more importantly I was addressing the overall conclusion that this somehow supports the claim that criticizing Israel brings us under God's curse. That was the original argument I was answering.
And I agreed with you in my post.
How to apply the "lesson" from this exchange wasn't my concern, just accuracy of the comment that this episode never happened.
I just felt to compelled, for the record, to clear up the disinformation that folks who don't read the Scripture might have gotten from your comments. You were pretty dismissive of the guy's comments so I had to back him up on that.
I already conceded that Paul did indeed make that statement. My mistake for thinking it was a reference to Jesus, who made an almost identical statement earlier in the NT. I apologize. Can you ever forgive me?
Well, I might. But are you REALLY apologizing? Maybe I'm just not interpreting it right? Maybe you aren't REALLY sorry? LOL!! OK. I'm done giving you a hard time. I hope this exchange has added value to your day!
