How many teachers and administrators at that school are obese?

Bravo! I agree 100%. Best of luck on your weight loss program-Isn't it great to have made the choice for yourself, rather than have the state compel you to do so, like some of these folks think it should?

Because, unlike a vision or hearing problem, a child's weight has nothing to do with their ability to learn! Someone tell me why these kids are being screened for weight problems???Two words: Nanny State.

Fat people just annoy the hell out of me. They're always in the way, out of breath and they usually smell funny. They should either lose the weight or just eat themselves to death and get it over with. Spare our eyes.Tonight, I will be on my knees praying to God that all of your children end up with genetically-acquired glandular conditions (in other words, conditions that are due to your obvious DNA defects) that cause them each to weigh over 200 lbs before they hit junior high. Then you'll get to enjoy the results of your pure bigoted hate every day for the rest of your life.

Amen to that. I opted out of the group insurance at work and kept my Tri-Care instead when I saw how many of my co-workers dragged their kids, spouses and selves to doctors on a weekly basis for every sniffle, headache, etc, or just because they wanted a prescription for the latest "wonder drug", including Viagra! Putting a stop to that crap would go a long way to keeping down costs. If I were an insurer, I'd rather insure people with real and predictable problems than a bunch of hypochondriacs-probably cheaper in the long run.

Because of the very HEAVY role genetics plays in this, chances are those parents are also obese. They need to tell the stupid public school system to ;LJ:Ooff.

Your response is appalling on so many levels I don't know where to begin. I have one overweight kid and one underweight kid. I must be a terrible or stupid parent, right? I must not take my parenting responsibilities very seriously. Maybe I should have the buttinskies at the school district tell me what I'm doing wrong!
To: gubamyster
I think they should send letters home to parents of ugly and stupid kids.

You're not a Merrimack Valley Pelosi are you? 'Cause I had to give a couple of them a beating for being loudmouthed fatheads awhile back.

You got something against fat kids? I believe you might fit in with the government education Gestapo.

Is screening for vision or obesity saying that we are bad parents? No, we just have to get our kids glasses for strabismus and if our kids are obese, we need to increase family exercise and keep healthy things available to eat. Sensitive issue, don't you think? We don't need to make a big deal about it, we just have to change our habits.
Why are Americans so overweight? I don't have the answer. You tell me. Some people think it is the auto instead of walking to our destinations of school or market.
I still think that it is quite ironic that the teachers in my kids' Christian school have to sign a promise that they will never drink or smoke but 50% of them are at least 50 lbs overweight. I can't stand smoking but I don't think it is any more a sin than overeating.

I can't stand smoking but I don't think it is any more a sin than overeating. That is a very Christian attitude you have there! Do you actually think that all obese people are that way because they commit the SIN of overeating?
If I ever got a letter from the school district busybodies critquing the weight of my children, they would get an earful.
Assuming you and your children do not have weight problems, consider yourselves blessed.
