Independent Counsel Robert Ray concludes in his final Whitewater report that the land venture benefited from criminal transactions but there was “insufficient evidence” to prove former President Clinton or his wife participated in wrongdoing.

And according to a jury of his peers, there was insufficient evidence to prove that OJ Simpson murdered his wife and her friend..

Four of the largest borrowers at Silverado Savings and Loan, a Denver thrift that collapsed in December 1988 at an estimated cost to the federal government of $1 billion, had connections to convicted Louisiana mob associate Herman K. Beebe Sr., or to Robert L. Corson, a Houston developer and alleged CIA operative.

Three of the four also had independent business relationships with Neil Bush, who was a member of the Silverado board from 1985 until he resigned in August 1988, a week after his father won the Republican presidential nomination.

The U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision in January issued orders barring five former Silverado officials from any future association with federally insured financial institutions.

Neil Bush was questioned by the OTS and was asked to sign a consent order by which he would agree to avoid conflicts of interest in any future relationships he might have with federally insured financial institutions.

It has always been my understanding that the prosecutors job was to develop probable cause and the jury's job to decide if reasonable doubt exists.

Before responding to me, it was a shame you didn't read what I wrote and pay attention to the tense. Had you paid attention, you would have surely realized that "needed" does not mean that I am advocating spending another 70 million bucks. It does mean, however, that people were chosen to prosecute who clearly did not have the huevos to do what should have been done. Had we spent a billion I would not have minded if it put the criminal pair in a 6 x 9 cell together on Alcatraz.

Agreed. Now look for Ray to announce that he's running against the scu%bag torricelli here in Jersey. He's counting on those headlines that proclaim "CLINTON'S CLEARED" to obsolve him of being a part of some right wing conspiracy during the campaign. He will be mistaken. The RATS will use it every chance they get and Ray will have learned a lesson from them.
