Boy I see you a lot on threads these days. :-)

I think Frankenstein was a nice guy compared to the jihadists facing us today. But, mutant does fit.

I am inclined to be hard on the President. He seems to vacillate between condemning the Palestinians (the Karine A incident, for example) and making nice at them, even though Arafat has lied to this administration repeatedly. He also vacillates between supporting Israel and then--while all but ignoring the terrorism that's been inflicted upon the Israelis by groups on the State dept.'s own list of terrorist organizations--forcing them into "peace process" with known terrorists, known liars--and oh, jamming that ridiculous Saudi/Tom Friedman "it's a figment of my imagination" peace plan down the Israeli throats. It's like telling a rape victim that she has to not only forgive her rapist, but allow him to move in with her.

My complaints go further: Colin Powell and the Arabists in the State Dept. continue to pursue the same failed policies towards the Middle East, specifically the Israeli-Palestinian crisis that the Clinton White House did.

Now I may not be as harsh as a_witness about it, but there is no clear vision coming from this administration, like there was no clear vision coming from the last. Arafat--with hand outstretched--has hornswoggled them again.

Concur, he is a disgrace.

Yes, Arafat is leering while our dead lie in their graves. How could Bush be this stupid ?

I mean he's all over Saddam, 'we won't let him off the hook' but what about Yasser Arafat?

How do we know he will really remove Saddam ?
Remember Powell is close at his side and he is apparently following Powell's advice. I can't imagine this shame is coming from Rumsfeld or Cheney. Perhaps Rice ?

He has this thing for PA terrorists. All they need is a state to support them called Palestine.

We are currently in the midst of a complex and difficult diplomatic campaign. I turn to the western democracies, first and foremost the leader of the free world, the United States. Do not repeat the dreadful mistake of 1938, when the enlightened democracies of Europe decided to sacrifice Czechoslovakia for the sake of a temporary, convenient solution. Don't try to appease the Arabs at our expense. We will not accept this. Israel will not be Czechoslovakia. Israel will fight terror. There's no difference between 'good terror' and 'bad terror' just as there is no difference between 'good murder' and 'bad murder.' Terrorism, as we witnessed this week in Alei Sinai, is worse than murder."

I can't argue with what you say.

Arghh.

No doubt Dubya is trying to walk the middle path in all this, but I agree with you and a_witness, that he is in error in the way he has been handling the Israeli situation, especially the last week or so.

As I said, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, and would never call him a 'disgrace', as witness has.

My hope is that when the hammer comes down, as it will, Uncle Sam will be where he needs to be, doing the right thing. Israel is favored by God, and it is America's destiny to stand by her.

I know I'm critical, but this is just one area where the President seems to be all over the map. It may be because the administration is young, or he's listening to the wrong people, but there's just no overall coherent policy or strategy. I understand that the war is all-consuming, but the war against al Qaeda and this conflict are inextricably intertwined. That was brought home when I went to lunch and heard that Italy had broken up a terror cell. Their targets? US and Israeli interests in Italy. If the terrorists see the US and Israel as a common target, the administration should see al Qaeda and Palestinian terrorism as a common target.
