Yeah, tell 'em next time and see if there is any chaos or anarchy, fleeing that happens as a result.

The result of letting him know would be chaos, panic, gridlock, looting, etc.

Tell New York?

Sure. And you can bet all the NY politicos would have been able to keep it a secret.

Here we go. . .typical Lib response. . .

Wasn't it enough that we could imagine such; isn't that what they are telling us everyday, anyway. . .what 'can'/'may'not happen? Would Libs be happier if they had word pictures?

Californina lives with the possibility of falling into the ocean. . .life goes on. . .

I think this is an old story, and is being dusted off and unrelentingly highlighted for some other reason.

This is the first dumb thing Bloomberg has done as mayor. Ok, we announce there is a threat to nuke NYC. Then what. Panic? Rioting? Martial law? Suicides? Does the city get evacuated? And if so, where do 8 million people relocate to? Imagine a total traffic gridlock as people try to get out on foot. Imagine a complete cessation of normal buisness activity as people leave the city. NYC take as even bigger economic hit, which affects the rest of the nation. Other cities starting hearing rumors they are the actual target and you have the same all across the US.

Bloomberg: I shoulda been told about Nuke Fear, so I could hop in my chopper and fly off to Bermuda until the nuclear winter ends...

And the rest of NYC? Who needs 'em?

Well, the good news is that the nuclear bomb will kill any remaining anthrax spores.

An old saying comes to mind.. "Loose lips sink ships" Sigh.. some things should REMAIN classifed... btw there were rumors floating around about suitcase long ago.. I remember reading about suitcase bombs on debka. I know I know it's debka.. but still they actually did say there was a detailed (detailed meaning one with a serial # on it) nuke out there.. maybe they were the ones that told time about the informant!

Hey guys, due to the way Bloomberg's radio station WBBR 1130 AM carried water for the Clintons during the impeachment hearings, I,was against Michael, because I saw him as a hopeless leftist. But then, slowly, things began to change. Rudy indorced him,-- (Very strange indeed!)

Later I noticed that he got into an argument over a picture of George Washington. He wanted the picture to stay because of its "historic value." ( He dosen't want to destroy history!")Very strange for a leftist!

And now he is trying to reform the NYC school system! Yikes! That's not possible, is it?

I think this guy deserves a chance.

Are there any pros to letting people know that their city is under the threat of a terrorist nuclear attack?

If a 10 KT nuke actually did go off in a very populated area such as New York City, and the people had no advance warning, what would your reaction to the government be if you found out that a credible threat was identified before the bomb went off?

What if you had lost loved ones in such an attack?

What if you lived in the area of the attack?

On the other hand, I can imagine the panic, terror, and utter chaos that would envelop the city if it's people had been told of a credible threat of a nuclear attack.

Does New York City or any other major city have evacuation plans for such an eventuality?

What is more preferable: 100,000+ people killed in a terrorist nuclear attack, or the death of thousands caused by the mass chaos of the warning of the attack?

What I would like to see from my fellow FReepers is a very serious and candid debate about the pros and cons of issuing nuclear bomb attack warnings for major cities.

What is wise and what is not wise in such a situation?

Perhaps the best way to ask the question is: If you were the President of the United States and you had a credible warning of a terrorist nuclear attack on a major city, what would you do?

The threat was later determined to be false, but the magazine said counterterrorist investigators went on their highest state of alert -- without coordinating plans with New York officials, including then Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

The Tampa Kamakazi pilot's suicide note mentioned that he had met with members of Al-Qeda (but did not join). It also mentioned that there would be a nuke detonated at the Super Bowl. That was probably key to why the letter was not released beforehand.

And just how many people in New Orleans were notified of that threat?

Living in NYC or DC (especially after 9/11) should be taken with a certain level of risk from terrorists and sabotage.

In wartime, I figure that Houston has to be on the list too (with the medical center, refineries, NASA, etc.).

Bloomberg:if Bush had told you and New York, and nothing happened, would you yell about being scared for nothing?

Here's the deal Bloomberg: New York is a potential target. How do I know? Because you've been hit twice. Because Fox experts say it's not a question of "if," but of "when". Because we're at war with nutcases who want a high profile target. If we don't get them, they'll get us. It's not rocket science. Bad weapons exist. They'll use whatever they can get their hands on. They might get their hands on some of those bad weapons. Connect the dots...

"We should have been told of a possible threat, regardless of whether or not the intelligence was accurate. Then 30 (or however many) days later when the threat was disproven the government could say [in their best Emily Letella voice] Never Mind......."

The irony is no one is mentioning the criticsm floating around post-9/11 which went something like : "Why scare the country with high alerts unless their was something specific to report?"
