I don't think so. Every group has some folks who are aggressive, and some who are downright hostile. There's no special "meaning" to it.

Also, many of us are guilty of letting our emotions run away with us on our pet issues. I've made that mistake myself, and have worked on guarding against it. I confess I don't always succeed.

My Dear misguided friend:

As you stated, you've only been around FR for a few months..(9.15.01 to be exact). Your profile states you are studied in the Classics and adhere to the tradiional R.C. religion. That's nice. But, I'm sure you understand, or should be cognizant to the fact, that the R.C. "Church", in which I once sought solace, has become a PC and socialist money making machine.

If your looking for "Social Justice" on FReeRepublic in the guise religion, you'll not find it here.

This forum is about our Constitution.

Best FReegards.

I cannot believe this silly thread has survived for more than 380 posts!

YOU sir obviously don't have the first CLUE as to just what a "Conservative" is so let me give you a clue!

Conservatives DO NOT run to the government seeking to impose their views on everyone else!

Social conservatives are the greatest enemies the conservative movement must overcome. We won the Cold War. Most people, except Castro and the cultural elite, understand the benefits of the free market. September 11 blew away the liberals' idea of appeasement and peace-love crap. Here's the final frontier: separating the conservative movement from the modern-day puritans and busybodies.

Look who the social conservatives align themselves with. Jerry Falwell, who has said such profound things as "God does not hear the prayers of a Jew," "the Anti-Christ will be Jewish" and has led attacks on Tinky Winky and Lilith Fair, not to mention claiming that September 11 happened due to our immorality; Tim LaHaye, who despite getting mainstream success with his "Left Behind" series, is no better than a paranoid conspiratorialist; Pat Buchanan, whose desire to go back to the 1950s while launching attacks on non-eastern cultures and Israel.

Being associated with such people does a grave disservice to social conservatives. It's pretty obvious that conservatives have shown that economic freedom is the best way to do things, and yet social conservatives refuse to extend that philosophy to our private lives and tastes.

So "Boston Public" is a racy, sexual show? Don't watch it. Don't like adult entertainment in your town? Don't patronize the business, but don't harass those who do.

I happen to work at a religious university. One of the priests here said something I'll never forget. "When it comes down to it, we all have to explain ourselves to God. What we do is between us and Him."

Is Free Republic becoming increasingly hostile towards Social Conservatives?

watsonfellow member since September 15th, 2001

So you've decided this after your long and comprehensive study of us since September? My guess is that you posted this just to stir up a wasp's nest. Real Freepers tend to be outspoken, so we end up arguing sometimes. Get over it.

From Charlie Daniels:
"And we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourselves, but you outside people best leave us alone."

Go back to DU where you belong, and don't let the door hit you in the ass.

I truly see and respect your position. I think most people use the freerepublic to indulge a sick veouristic urge. The freerepublic provides a liberal public forum for perverts, homosesexuals, and libertarians to indulge their sick gay passions, to form private gay sex alliances, and to form masonic conspiracies.

We would prefer that people keep their problem lifestyles to themselves, but the facts are in. Freepers are sociopaths. They don't make it to church on Sundays because they're out freeping all saturday night, and if they had healthy lives they wouldn't need the freerepublic, now would we?.

Freepers are the pariah class political activists. Most of them smoke, have mental disorders, many just stay home and collect social security insurance. Freepers don't work. They aren't college students, they don't study. Freepers are the Subversive element of society.

The freerepublic was invented by a post war Nazi Scientist working for the u.s. in order to control an potentially dangerous revolutionary subculture. Notice the sign in front says "Addictive!" Their goal was to get you addicted to this forum, and then use it to brainwash you into submission to the rules of the state. If it weren't for this forum, you would probably be forming small liberal militias and planning to overthrow the U.S. Government.

If your addicted to freerepublic I garuntee it is because you have a social problem, and a political subversive. True conservatives would rather read the Bible to their kids, and real politicians don't give a flying f*$k about your comments. They don't read this stuff, but they know they are being effective. Silently swept in patriotic nationalism, slurring at each other while you type. Freepers are hedonist snots.!

Who reads this trash anyway?

Am I alone in thinking this?

Why don't you channel Evelyn Waugh for his opinion on this? Better yet, I'll channel you channeling Evelyn Waugh.

Can't we all just get along and get back to doing the one thing we can all agree on, bashing the Clintons. ;)

My dear Watson, let not your heart be troubled. It does seem to be true that the usual heathen rabble of hedonists, libertarians, athiests, agnostics, and their fellow travelers are even more annoying then usual but that is not the whole picture. Many conservatives are becoming less active because a Jesus praising social conservative now runs the country. Also communists such as the ones at the Democatic Underground are hard at work undermining Free Republic. Social Conservatives need to stay right here. There is still much work to do in the area of saving America from the Hun. We must grab the socialists, hedonists, libertarians, athiests, ect. by the scruff of their necks and verbally smack some sense into them. We need to do this while running victory laps on behalf of the President. Now give me a high five and get back in there and win one for the gipper. --MM

Free Republic has become increasingly hostile toward everyone. I don't think that social conservatives have been necessarily singled out.

I've been lurking here for years, and the tone and tenor of the exchanges here have become vile in that timespan.

I ignore it. The only thing that causes me dismay is the inability to find any real news here, anymore, amongst the noise. This place used to be really exciting for news.

I wonder if this is becoming only a haven for hedonists and libertarians, and if so, perhaps it would be better for social conservatives to find their own site.

I am a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.By "social liberal" I mean that your religious points of view belongs to you, your family between the four walls of your home and the church were you belong, period.Religion is to diverse and complex to be discussed and argued about it.As to, for other social issues, everything should be adressed on its own merrits with facts on hand when deliberated.
Very often I have noticed that religion was injected in many aspects of social issues discussion.Keep in mind that the conservatives "social issues" is the other side of the sword next to liberal "social issues".

You, by just invoking the word "hedonists", it shows me that you see everything thru the prism of religion rather then using plain rationale. In today's socio-political environment, is imperative to use clear and sound judgment instead emotions, to ensure the right outcome.
