I don't believe in letting cats wander in the neighborhood.Thats the way to be a responsible pet owner, I don't think people realize the dangers for cats out there in the big world, not only from accidental injuries, but also from cruel people.

I am glad she is the proud owner of good humans. LMAO, ain't that the truth. I've always had calicos (a VERY fickle breed) and they all think I belong to them. It's hilarious.

Hi Don Joe, I'm praying for your cat.
I have a 13 year old cat who has had kidney and intestinal problems for a long time. For the most part, with meds and many (very) high vet bills, she's been doing very well. But we've also had scares where she loses a lot of weight, doesn't eat, etc. She's now at 5.5 lbs. and I know how scary it is to see them that frail.
Fluids (the IV thing) will help, and yes, they tend to go for chicken and it is easier for them to digest. I hope she's alright - it sounds like you are taking very good care of her. Blessings to you and Jessie!

I'm sitting here crying, with my Boston terrier on my lap and my three cats within arm's length. Hope you have a gas mask on.......... sorry, couldn't resist. :-}

I think I've got everyone on this ping, if not, I apologize. I posted an update at post 59 (the "to 59" at the bottom of this post.) I'm sorry I didn't get this posted earlier, I was pretty much of a wreck yesterday and today, in all the worry about Jessie I forgot to take my heart medicine, and I get thrown for a loop when that happens. (Very fatigued, can't sleep, skin crawling, etc.)
She is still having a rough time, but she is still with us, and we are still hoping she will pull through. She seems to be rehydrating, her muscles feel fuller to me. I appreciate the prayers and the kindness I've received here.
It's just shy of a year since my father died, and it still feels like it happened. And it's just over three years since my dog died, he was about 14 and his kidneys went. The vet tried everything, but nothing did any good, he just got worse until he couldn't walk, and then he got ulcers down to the bone. It happened real fast. The vet came out to end his suffering, and he died in my arms. It still hurts to think about it. I was a wreck for a long time after that.
I really don't want to lose Jessie.

It sounds like she's doing much better! When my mother's dogs got sick, she made rice with chicken broth and water, and they almost always ate that. Not too salty, though, so maybe not best to use bouillon cubes.
The Feline Telepathic Network is really humming tonight!

I am not cat people. But I understand the bond of love between a human and a pet.
I hope she gets better.
But if she does not, then let her go with kindness.

Hi Don, hang in there and know you are doing so well by her.
Take good care of yourself, too - take your heart medicine, get some rest. You'll be better for her if you are in good shape, physically.
Many people do not realize how our love and concern for our pets can be this strong - but rest assured that we, here, are praying for Jessie, and you, and hoping for the best. Just look at all these messages - we're rooting for her & YOU! God Bless!
To: Don Joe
That's guardedly wonderful news - hope she continues to get better.
Now, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Take your meds, get plenty of sleep, go blow a couple of bills for a nice dinner and a show, etc. The kitty's going to want to see you when she pulls out of her illness.

And if dinner and a show aren't your thing, go pick up a nice 9mm or .45 instead and make a day of it at the range ;)

It's tough DJ,I'm a dog person, to me cats are the other white meat,
but it's tough losing a critter you have built up a relationship with.
I will say a prayer for your cat, just don't tell my dog about it.

TAKE YOU MEDS ! Thanks for the update, and I'm still praying for you and your beloved kitty.
My lovely , very much " I'm not a cat; I'm a human being ", cat, died almost 20 years ago. He could never be replaced; he was really , all that special. I know how you feel. Courage, stiff upper lip, and your beloved kitty shall heal. : - )

I'm very sorry for you and know how you feel. I lost my 16 year old cat on Jan. 4. She had gone through a lot with me and is sorely missed.
I'll pray for you and your cat. Be strong.
To: Don Joe
You got it. Believe me, I understand and I pray your kitty rebounds and has several of those nine lives left. I have a calico myself and they're something else.

I so much sympathise. I lost my beloved cat, Maia just last week...I know how much it hurts.

I'm praying. My 15-year-old cat, Cloyd, has had another surgery for urinary blockages. $2,750 and climbing, and this is only for the current problem. Over his lifetime he has had well over $6,000 in medical bills.
Alas, the special diet which controlled his "struvelite" bladder stones worked fine for 6 years. Now as he has aged, he is making "calcium oxylate" crystals, and the special diet for this may encourage the formation of struvelites.
He now has an enterococcus infection, which we are fighting with a powerful antibiotic. In addition, to control his urinary pH, I have to force-feed him one milliliter of Potassium Citrate twice a day.
Cats can live to be 20-21 years old. The vet says, "Maybe two more years." He's had his last surgery, would not survive another--and would have a life of misery afterwards.

I don't like cats...but I know a lot of cat lovers, so I know...
That your cat lived a wonderfully comfortable life...
That your cat was played with, had her tummy tickled, and had the yarn ball thrown for her...
That she was loved as if she were a child...
...and that she had a wonderful life as a member of your family.
If I prayed, I would pray for you, not your cat; because your cat had a wonderful life...you are still enduring yours...
