I apologize if this has already been posted, as well as the length, but I heard about this on the radio this evening and was shocked.

I, unfortunately, can't vouch for the source (the part about the US government promoting Islam so thta we can all be enslaved was certainly over the top).

Has anybody else heard of anything along these lines? Is the general crux of this article accurate?

Islam is close enough to the facist state religion that it is okay to give it official support in the public schools.

Learning about a religion is one thing, being forced to say its prayers are another.

More double-standard BS from the leftist education cartel. Didn't any of them learn from similar mistakes in Chicago and New York? Oh, and of course, the principal claims to be in the right by asserting that "only" three parents called about the class.

PTUEY, PTUEY

Somebody post some contacts for these people -- phone, email, whatever.

Actually, it was some local radio host in Philly. He may have picked it up from Hedgecock though.

being forced to say its prayers are another.

plenty of kids are forced to say things at school with much less educational value than 3 weeks of islamic immersion.

As long as no christianity is taught all is ok. Remember "our diversity is our strength." The true meaning of tolerance slowly being made manifest.

I live in Byron and I am mustering the troops as we speak. I am close friends with the head of the town council and most of the other influential members of our small town . This WILL NOT stand. To say I'm pi$$ed at this would be an understatement. First I'm going to find out what is really happening. Then if I find that they are teaching that crap cult religion I will ... with the aid of my friends ... organize a protest and hopefully a freep there. In the meantime life for Ms Castro is going to be a little more .... eventful (legally of course). This is a small town made of farmers and ranchers who many are decendants of the Donner party survivors. These people are VERY conservative and will NOT tolerate this kind of activity.

All things considered, this is certainly a breech of the 1st. Amendment rights of the parents of these children to be free of government forced religion.

Where is the ACLU?

The ACLU will appear on behalf of this schools policy, not against. Curiouser and curiouser

and more. i think we may have hit on how do deal with the religion in school debate. a few weeks for each one out to do it.
I have nothing against learing about other religions.
In high School, I took 2 courses:
1) an intro to major religions, where I learned about Hinduism, Bhuddism, and some smaller faiths.
2) A course on the 3 Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The first course was an into course, so I basically read secondary sources and some history books.
The second course was more complete. I had to read parts of the Torah, New Testament, and Koran.
I had to write papers comparing elements of the religions.
Frankly, I found reading the Koran informative. This was quite different than being forced to say prayers in the Koran. I had to memorize the pilars of Islam.
I never had to say them. Never once did I say that "Allah is god, and Mohammed is his prophet."
Had I done so, I would have taken a step into converting to Islam. I also would have been breaking the First 2 Commandments.
Forcing kids to say Muslim preayer is forced apostacy.
It is evil and is an infringement on First Ammendment rights.
Could you imagine the uproar if kids were forced to say the Nicean creed?

"Learning about a religion is one thing, being forced to say its prayers are another."

. . . Learning about 'a' religion may not be so fine. . .learning about religions per se is one thing and in a course designed to acquaint one with 'religion'. . .

. . .these parents better be more than just unhappy and frustrated; they must act and get a grip on those who are so determined to undermine educational ethics and maximize the worst (or the 'best') of 'political correctness while doing so.

. . .and the rest of the population better get ready to do the same. . .

Maybe they can teach advanced Islam in 8th grade. Kids can decapitate people's head with a knife as they scream or they can strap C-4 to themselves and detonate when they get close to infidels.
