Just did mine on the new iMac. It was easy!! RitzCamara was charging like $70 for only two hours and one copy.

I use the new Panasonic DMR-HS2. You can record from your VCR directly to a blank DVD or to the hard disc drive on the recorder. The hard drive holds from 17 to 52 hours depending on quality desired. You can then adjust the picture using a varity of controls and then record to DVD. It uses DVD-Rs which I have puchased online at $1.25 each. So far they play back on all machines I have tried except a six year old first generation DVD player. I paid $811.00 online for the recorder. I love it.

You can, but it's expensive. You can buy a unit that hooks up from your vcr to the computer, and you can edit VHS tapes in (for example) windows media player, or the software player that comes with it. Have to have a dvd burner. But I know it can be done.

Hey !! The new iMac Rules, it was so easy too transfer VHS TO DVD on iMovie. So cool to think I took a 16 YO VHS Tape and now it's saved forever, for just the price of a Blank DVD!

I saw a commercial on television last night about some stand-alone hardware for copying VCR tapes onto CD's without a computer interface.
Don't have any idea what the cost is or any specifics, though. They'll probably play it again.
