Mass Gov. May Choose Gay Running Mate

Acting Gov. Jane Swift has chosen a 33-year-old openly gay staff member and former suburban mayor as her running mate in the 2002 election, an administration official told The Associated Press. Swift, 36, planned to announce her selection of Patrick C. Guerriero, later Thursday, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The only reason I can think of why it's important he's gay and he's in Massachusetts is that their education system that already teaches "fisting" and recruits for gay sexuality will not be challenged if he has any say in the matter.

Even this is not necessarily true. Get beyond the usual demonizing of gays and think about this analogy: Many adults drink and smoke, but they wouldn't necessarily advocate it for schoolchildren, nor would they even approve of it. I think the same could probably be assumed for some (but not all) gays who work in the school systems. They know what's appropriate for children and what's not.
