The bashing is mostly by I consider fear-biters. They are terrified of freedom.

The best expression I've heard is "Authoritarian Capitalists." They share many traits with National Socialists and Italian Fascists. Manipulated economy, regulated and controlled business entities, incestuous relationship between government and business, militaristic adventurism, authoritarian control of society. The trappings of free enterprise, but not the reality. The facade of a free society, but not the substance. The pretense of citizen participation, but actual manipulation by the power-elite. The nation seems to move deeper into that abyss each year. The timetable seems to have accelerated since 9/11.
