I think A&M has to be the most conservative public school in the nation. I cannot think of another public school that even comes close.

I'm sure that there are more conservative schools to choose from in the private school sector. However, those are so expensive that many people cannot afford to attend them.

Good point. I've probably tripped over too many hippies-on-crack, but yeah, good team!

Here's one vote for Baylor! Not if you're into football, though....

Though not a guarantee of academic excellence, I take indifference to big-time athletics to be a positive sign. Millionaire athletic directors corrupt academics almost as much as do vice presidents for minority affairs.

ChaseR, I was quoting an earlier post, but George Mason University is in Northern Virginia, VMI is Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. I dont know about Claremont. (I'm from Va so the local colleges are easy for me.)

I don't mean to pontificate, but your child's education is still the best investment you will ever make.
I would sell my house and live in a shack for my kids school.

The schools were my quote.
Grove City is a college in western PA. www.gcu.edu
Chicago Economics is the University of Chicago's Economics Department.
Claremont McKenna is in California.

feel free to drop me a line if you need more data.

Well, what do I tell child #2 who is just 1 year behind? Sorry, we not only do not have a place to live, but we have no money for you to go to college. Seems to me the most logical thing to do would be to quit our jobs and live in a van down by the river. Then both kids could get financial aid until the cows come home!

Well, actually that's my plan.

Seriously, while it sounds like you don't have a lot of time to plan, here are some suggestions:

1. Eliminate money in kids names. Colleges expect a 22% contribution from them but only 8% from parents.
2. Some colleges do not go after home equity or retirement plans. That means pay off the mortgage and max out the retirement plans and eliminate any cash available.
3. Look closely at borrowing. I suspect that the schools would loan the money if the other fed programs are not enough. This is particularly true given the volume of foreign students who are not coming back after the holiday breaks.

Grove City really is excellent for the money. And if you still can't scrape it up, send the kids to the military for a few years, it will help pay and it's not bad experience.

Best of luck

I think you mean Trenton State. The name was hijacked by social preeners -- not all a bad lot, as preening like greed can be motives for improvement. Under the temporary name it has a tranvestite (post-op, pre-op?) Trustee, and an active culture of "Tolerance". Yet, there are students and such willimg to buck the PC tide. Housing is tight.
