If the Aussies are going to start attacking sheep during the day as well as after the pub on a Friday night, things could get serious.

Why don't these ranchers just shoot the damn things?
Oh wait, I forgot. Australia banned nearly all firearms. Oops.

"We sympathise with farmers. They say they are witnessing the emergence of a kind of `superdog' in the mountains. We understand how tough it is to have 200 sheep killed in a season. It's very traumatic. But the tiger quoll is a threatened species." "Threatened" critters first, humans last.
(As if the superdogs won't eat all the quolls.)
What are Aussie laws on shooting feral dogs/dingos?

I know there have been one or two slightly derogatory posts about our Aussie cousins. But I'm sure they will take it in the spirit intended!

...But the tiger quoll is a threatened species." Yes, they had the same sentiment about bears up here in Oregon. Only, it turned out the bears were breeding so fast, they attacked not only insignificant humans, but also deer. So the enviros were in a dilemma. They finally accepted a plan to use dogs to tree the bears so they could be shot by forest rangers. I recall a jogger being eaten by a big puma cat in California a few years back. That's probably what it will take for the Aussies to get anything done, enough to overcome any lingering sentiment for the wonderful, precious tiger quoll. (Say, just what the hell is a tiger quoll anyway??)

Gives new meaning to the tune "tie me Kangaroo Down". Guess sheep taste better than wallabi.

The cross-bred dingoes, larger than normal dingoes, are the product of mating between the native dog and escaped domestic breeds such as Alsatians, pit bulls and bull mastiffs.
There are a lot of loony guys roaming the Outback who look like they may be a result of these unnatural liaisons.

"The dingo ate your baby"
and your wife.
And you voted in the lunacy that won't let you stop it. Your next.

Actually today, in civilised Australia (Victoria), a farmer ---NOT A FRIGGIN' RANCHER --- got $100,000 in court off the State Govt because they (govt) wouldn't deal with a pack of wild dogs that lived on Crown Land but would descend from the hills and eat his sheep every night. Regarding guns. The beauty of Australian law is that people who NEED guns - farmers, sportsmen etc - can get them with ease. Those who merely WANT guns -- types who watch American TV and indulge in American pastimes like injecting cocaine --- thankfully, are kept gun free. I have been to the US and find our arrangement works better for all concerned.

Didn't work so well for that kid Lindy Chamberlain told everyone had been knoshed by a dingy!

what the hell is a tiger quoll anywayWithout looking it up, my guess is that it is one of those carnivorous marsupials they have in Australia, like the Tasmanian Devil. Before humans got there, the only carnivorous Australian mammals were marsupials.

The problem has become so acute that Australia's first National Wild Dog Summit will be held in the city of Wodonga, Victoria, in February.
"National Wild Dog Summit"...whoooeeee! That's rich!
