You're more than welcome. It's a lot more fun than an argument about how scummy Willy and Hitlery are. This has been a wonderful distraction. Hopefully, there's more to come....lol

I would tell excrement my name, then he would have to admit defeat, but I'm afraid he might ride his skateboard to my house and throw his nose ring throught my front window.

I'm too tired to come up with my own now, but I'd like to ask you why you haven't mentioned Coltrane's highly acclaimed A Love Supreme.

Easy - because, as much as I do like the album, I don't think it is quite on par with stuff like Blue Trane, Bags and Trane, or just about his entire Atlantic Records catalog, not to mention Impressions and Coltrane. As for Miles Davis's post-Silent Way period, with the exceptions of Bitches Brew and Get Up With It, the word for these ears is boring. He wasn't as insane as the hardcore free jazzers by any means, but neither was the work as invigorating or as affecting as those three sets. And even with those three, none of them (except Silent Way, which belongs at the top of the heap no matter what period Miles one bespeaks) was quite as vibrant as ESP or Miles in the Sky, so far as what they call his "freebop" period is concerned.

My family used to play Louis Armstrong records (along with Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis) all the time. That's all I know about jazz.

I listen to an alternative band called Morcheeba that's a mixture of jazzy sounds, rock, Afro-Cuban music, and rap.

I recently purchased Stan Kenton's Journey Into Capricorn just to hear the song "Pegasus," which we were playing in marching band. After listening to the whole album rather than skipping through the tracks like I normally do, all I can say is, "Wow!" This is probably the best Latin-jazz album out there. If you can find a copy at a local music store since they're hard to find at such retailers, by all means BUY IT!!!

Sorry about your keyboardist buddy splitting a gut over there today. But, if he agrees with you about music, his gut-splitting was probably the most musical thing he's done in his life. Getting a keyboard for Christmas does not make one a keyboardist. Neither does talking about how great you are make you a musician. Either you are, or you're not. I'm betting on the latter. Nothing you have said so far proves otherwise. You didn't answer about the drum. What kind of drum do you play??

whereas in Jazz, a THOUROUGH WORKING KNOWLEDGE of Musical Structure and Hamony is a PREREQUISITE just to play at an INTERMEDIATE level,...

Depends on what you mean by "knowledge". I suspect most of the originators of jazz couldn't read music. That's technically what is meant by illiterate. Doesn't mean they didn't know anything.

,,, Parsy - I've bookmarked this thread. Waded thru it and saw you hadn't jumped in so I'm BUMPing it to ya.

In my post, I should have probably added Coltrane's "Anthology".

Thanks. I noticed someone said Stan Getz...Supposedly I have a rare recording of him doing Moonlight in Vermont. Luckily here in Little Rock we have this great "good music" station. Jazz. Blues. Pop. parsy.

Thanx for the ping! I'm scanning this thread, and I have to know--what did this facecriminal say to get banned from a jazz thread?
