So, what harm has Harry Potter done? I assume you have examples.

You're right about the Classics. Mark Twain's remark that Classics are books which people praise but don't read has never been truer. It would be nice to see that trend reversed.

Did you know the Harry Potter is Anti-Christ HYSTERIA is nothing new? This is the same stupidity that Yip Harburg had to deal with when the Wizard of OZ was made into a movie with his music. We all know how many children became the slaves of Satan because of Dorothy & Toto. Different day, same garbage. I am so suprised how many adults are confusing J.K. Rowling with the Anti-Christ. As the great and compassionate Christian leader, Pat Robertson, told us, the Anti-Christ is a Jewish Male.

It has nothing to do with one's faith being shaken, it has to do with what God of the Bible ( if you are a Christian) has to say about this " stuff". It has nothing to do with our opinion, it is what God's opinion on it is. It is very clearly stated, no room for misinterpretation.

Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

America is truly sick... BTW the Classics would be wonderful to read to the children today.

Like Shakespeare?
Edgar Alan Poe?
The Oddessy?
The Hobbit?

Wait... they all deal with witchcraft too...

Burn them all now, before it's too late.

Good point. They also seem to be members of the Anti-Semite camp like Pat Robertson.

But the book does not say "be a witch".

Nor does it tell anyone "you too can be a witch if you do this".

It says none of that, nor is it pushed by anyone (except those trying to squash it) as being that.

...why did he have man write it?

Answer: He chose to.

Question for you:
For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus ?
Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

Our best wisdom is folly with God. It amazes me how many people put Him aside and replace what He has said with what they think or feel He ought to be like.

He calls that idol worship. And He doesn't like it.

Remember what He said to Job?

"Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me!"

Many people are contending against the God who created them.

Finally, check this out:

"For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear : Fear him , which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him ."

He who has an ear - let him hear!

Me, me, I'll take the bait. No, not any more than any other document written by a human being.

Because he chose to? Could it not be said that he shose JK Rowling to deliver the message of good vs. evil in a new message for 21st century children? Could God's hand be involved in this as well?

RE: Your post # 68.

Look, you have your opinion, others have their's and I see no point in debating this issue, I really don't. I stated my interpretation and beliefs and I'm sure you will contiue with yours, and so be it. If you see no harm in it for you or your children fine with me. I'm not here to convince or force opinions. I have seen many young kids now going to libraries in search of books on witchraft, spells and the likes. What you O.K. in your home perhaps is not what someone else would allow in their's and that is it in a nutshell.

What are these
So wither'd and so wild in their attire,
That look not like the inhabitants o' the earth,
And yet are on't? Live you? or are you aught
That man may question? You seem to understand me,
By each at once her chappy finger laying
Upon her skinny lips: you should be women,
And yet your beards forbid me to interpret
That you are so.

-- Macbeth.

Then why do people try to assign natural reasoning techniques to describe or even talk about God?

Wasn't it Falwell that made that comment?

Is Snow White a work of Satan? How about the Wizard of Oz? Rumplestiltskin? The Sorceror's Apprentice (micky mouse)? Sleeping Beauty?

If these fantasys are ok, why not Harry Potter?

its a typo for crying out loud give me a small break.

Sorry. As a Christian, it's a particular pet peeve I have when people excuse shoddy work because "it's for the Lord." Yes, we all make mistakes, but that was a particularly obvious one.

More importantly, there have been dozens of Harry Potter threads on FR. I've been on three or four today. It's one of the things that will get FReepers worked into a frenzy. If you'd been paying attention, you would've realized that and you could have posted your comments there.

Instead, you posted this vanity because you wanted the attention.

I gave you some. It just wasn't the kind you wanted.

And BTW, it's Hogwarts, not Hogworts.
