Personally I enjoy the books and am seeing the movie at 10:30 tonight. Can't wait to see it come to life. And I will still be a Christian afterward too. Imagine that.

I'm going on Saturday night and will attend Church the next morning, as usual.

It's funny that these books have sold over 110 million copies, and I have yet to see anyone turn into a toad, cat or dog, no owls delivering mail, no quidditch matches, no flying cars or brooms, nor anyone travel by floo powder through a network of fireplaces. Could that be because these books are fiction!?! Only the most dense individual would mistake these books, or the movie for that matter, as reality or even as an attainable reality.

Although I can't possibly respond to all 800 threads about the HP books and movie, I hope that informed parents will read the books with an open mind, and then decide if the books are appropriate for their children. But, even if you do not want your children to read the books or see the movie, please do not label those of us who do as devil worshippers and the like, as many have seemed only to willing to do. Many Christians like me do not feel that is an accurate portrayal of the books or those of us who like the books.

I hope everyone who goes to see the movie has a great time! Go Griffindor!

Hmmm...you will not speak to me until my heart softens? Then I can let this dangle out there for a while, I guess:

Your relationship with God doesn't appear to be a personal one, it is one that has been instructed to you. If you decide to speak to me again (or if my heart is soft...whatever) perhaps you can entertain these questions:

How many religions have you seriously studied/been part of in your whole life?
In your current religion, have you ever been in disagreement with any of the religion's views on anything (note I say religion, not individuals within the church)?
Since you accused me of making a false statement about who wrote the Bible, care to prove to me that this is a false statement? (without quoting more scripture)
Do you always shut out tests of your faith? Does God want you to do this?

This is a Great Analogy. It only Supports the Harry Potter story. Sometimes God uses indirect ways to teach us even His Truth.

Why not just go to the source, you ask? Well, some people, lots of people, shut themselves off from the Direct Source.

In the Narnia books, the kids ask Aslan why they were brought there (or something to that effect), and he answers that by knowing him there, they might recognize and get to know Him better in their own world.

Harry Potter books do not worship, or promote, Evil in the real world. They describe a struggle between Good and Evil, in that Fictional World.

and other than that, they're just Fun. :-)

My guess is to avoid confronting questions about his faith. I belive in faith...faith in God. I have a particularly strong faith in God...however I have no faith in any particular religion. I would never openly bash someone who is religous, because I belive religion can help a lot of people find truths. However, if someone is going to say they have some sort of eternal truth on thier side and attempt to use it as a shield against any type of criticism, I will call them on it.

It appears our friend here has faith by association...his faith is rooted in his religion and in the Bible. There is nothing wrong with that and his path may very well lead him into Heaven. That being said, my direct faith in God may very well be a path that leads me into Heaven. The inner tuths I discover mean something to me. This goes beyond just feeling something. Beyond just learned things. It is the combination of my inner voice, my God given logic, and my experience. I think I am on a good path.

To add to what Franks asked:

Why did God have men Write it, Edit it, Limit it. How do men know that This writing was inspired by God as claimed, and That writing wasn't.

They were inspired by God that it was so? They were but this other person, who also claims to be inspired by God, wasn't? Which ultimate earthly authority knows what is truly inspired by God and what isn't?

Oh, someone inspired by God? It is so circular and ALL depends on some HUMAN element claiming to have the only Direct link to God. This always strikes me as Denying the Holy Spirit, which was promised to each of us as individuals, and that is the one unforgivable sin (Jesus said so very plainly).

Aren't you afraid that if you attend church after seeing, and possibly enjoying Harry Potter, that you will burst into flames upon entering the church?
