Over the last few days I've come to realize that the Taliban is even more stupid than the Iraqis. At least the Iraqis could set fire to oil wells. These idiots can't even burn down their own building. The press in this country owes everyone an explanation as to why they have made this war out to seem like it would be much harder than it was.

I'm sure all this "help" came from Pakistani scientists. The ones who were working on "water projects" in Afghanistan. I can see now how the world will end......sometime in the future a madman like bin Laden + oil money....or N Korea or some dictatorship will simply launch......start a war......little by little more of the world will be destroyed. Modern science in the hands of 12 century societies.... Monkeys playing with a radioactive coconut.....Kaboom!

Good post, blam.
What concerns me the most is that you don't have to be an intelligence guru to have figured out what they were up to for the last 8 - or into Bush, Sr's watch - ago!
Why must we always wait for the coddled public to support what must or should be done?
NEXT TIME WE MAY NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF LEADTIME!
This problem is NEVER going to go away. New ones will crawl out from under the rocks after the old ones are dispatched.

I don't know why people don't see the truth of the matter, either, Smogger. Thankfully, our President and military see it and as long as they don't let the diplimats muck it up, we'll be okay. Our job at FR and as citizens is to ensure that support for the military remains high so that all the politicans will have the resolve to continue doing what they must do - get the bad guys before they get us. That's a basic since the days of cowboys and Indians.

"If you don't have any fissionable material and your not constructing an a-bomb what the hell do you need a nuclear scientist for?" Perhaps they were just sharing recipes for goats...?
I agree there is reason for concern and that continued caution is advisable. But the material the British reporter came across has nothing serious to do with constructing a device.

This probably won't work too well being dropped from a camel...... Maybe not, but it could be loaded into a Cessna Citation and exploded at 1000 feet above ground level. I wouldn't dismiss this stuff too lightly. These people want you dead.

Thanks for the ping.
I keep telling myself that if he had them, he would've used them.
The majority of the bomb-making instructions were easy to understand and used domestic items, including Alka Seltzer tubes, condoms, wax, mousetraps and cigarettes as contact switches to initiate charges.
So will the airlines be confiscating these items now?

Ask yourself this. If you don't have any fissionable material and your not constructing an a-bomb what the hell do you need a nuclear scientist for? Feasibility studies.

"You may be right, but I don't know that we can conclude either of those things." It would be foolish not to proceed on the assumption that he has somehow acquired a nuke of some sort.
But the material the British reporter discovered has nothing serious to do with constructing such a device, as I am sure you would agree. Since I was aware of most of that material from having read Rhodes' "The Making Of The Atomic Bomb", I presume it was very elemental stuff.

There's your air burst right there. They wouldn't even need to violate any flight restrictions either.

Good work. I recall that the Iraqis were developing a super-gun with the help of a deranged Canadian scientist who eventually got bumped off. If we can follow the thread to Iraq, my guess is that's the next stop.

It's only scary if you think blowhards and braggards are scary -- sounds like they were disneyland. I mean its all a bragging and throwing around buzzwords and techie-clutter to make themselves seem self-important.
Actually says something about M. Atta and his low-tech effectiveness -- maybe he didn't quite "fit in".

Yes. My thought exactly. Is this a plant. They want us to think one thing, while they have something else up their sleeve.
This find was too easy!
