Getting in and out and helping our "friends" there repel the Soviet Union was just what we did a decade ago, and is what we have been blamed for: we've more than implicitly stated that we "shouldn't make that mistake again". So far the general short-term contours of our policy re: a workable solution for Afghanistan seems largely determined by our "friend" Pakistan. In short, there are no real solutions, there are only mistakes, big and small.

The Alliance, which has won American support in its battle against the Taliban, produced 150 metric tonnes of opium this year, according to Mohammad Amirkhizi, senior policy adviser at the United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention.

The current objective is to kill Taliban. We support the Northern Alliance because they are the ones who can kill Taliban with minimum US casualties. When the Northern Alliance becomes too annoying, then we can see about going in and killing them too

Ada, so far we know many of the terrorists carried forged documents that indicated they were Saudis. Isn't that convenient? IMO its just about as convenient as those guys leaving the Koran and photos of OBL behind or making an unforgettable scene in a strip joint the night before the attack. Conspiracy is always at the very heart of terrorism. Take a look at historical precident.
