Doesn't it make you feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that the FBI is doing their best to keep us safe against this unsubstantiated terror alert? Unsubstantiated, meaning that they don't even know where or when it's going to hit.

They'll be sitting safely in their bunkers, while the rest of us will be out in the open, vulnerable to any attack!

Perhaps Ashcroft doesn't know the source of the threat, or threats...

Or Perhaps he does, and doesnt' want to tip his hand to the terrorists.

The Bush crowd isn't like the Clinton crowd, looking for every possible excuse for the press to pat them on the back. They aren't telling us every plot that was thwarted in the aftermath of 9/11. I happen to have a very reliable inside source at a hotel chain that the FBI pulled a scary amount of C-4 from one of their rooms just after 9/11.

No press conference, though.

All this is doing is raising American antibodies.

The more p*ssed America gets about having its routine messed up by these threats, the more impetus there will be to enlarge and intensify the war and start mass internments and deportations.

Things that hitherto Americans had no stomach for, but will quickly acquire, after a few more threats and events.

Anybody else catch that bit towards the end of Ashcroft's speech where he said something about "when and if" we encounter law enforcement (and military? he went too fast to type, and it's not in the online stuff I can find) we should cooperate?

That struck me as kinda ominous.

My wife disagrees, but I got the impression that they were intimating that they told the "18,000 LE agencies" something a bit more specific than they told us.
