Yes, of course. Ashcroft can't win for losing. If he didn't say anything and he knew something and something happened, he would get blamed. Now, he goes out and TELLS US that there is an UNSPECIFIED terrorist alert going out (which basically means he got info that's credible but he didn't get any details) and people are still complaining. Some people will never be happy, will they? Yes, Ashcroft is damned either way. I trust his judgement in these matters over the surplus of wags that just like to hear themselves talk.

How can our ruling elite keep giving us "warnings" when they are doing nothing to get these potential terrorists out of the US? Is this going to keep up with warning after warning? Rounding up suspects after people are killed is just not good enough. Is this a war? I think the American people need to shout with a loud, clear voice -- Get non US citizens from terrorists countries out of here right now!
To: Pokey78
Might I suggest something?
Perhaps Ashcroft doesn't know the source of the threat, or threats...
Or Perhaps he does, and doesnt' want to tip his hand to the terrorists.
The Bush crowd isn't like the Clinton crowd, looking for every possible excuse for the press to pat them on the back. They aren't telling us every plot that was thwarted in the aftermath of 9/11. I happen to have a very reliable inside source at a hotel chain that the FBI pulled a scary amount of C-4 from one of their rooms just after 9/11.
No press conference, though.
Read between the lines, please.

Anyone ever seen those "I'm a Lert" buttons - just thought I'd interject a laugh now....

All this is doing is raising American antibodies.
The more p*ssed America gets about having its routine messed up by these threats, the more impetus there will be to enlarge and intensify the war and start mass internments and deportations.
Things that hitherto Americans had no stomach for, but will quickly acquire, after a few more threats and events.
Grow, American antibodies and vertebrae!!

"We have an unspecified threat of some unspecified type that requires us to take more control over your lives and violate your privacy even more grossly. Its for the children. I couldn't beat a dead guy, but I promise to beat Bin Ladin" -- John A$$croft A cynical, or vigilant in some eyes, man would wonder at the juxtaposition of the Pentagon unveiling "smart ID cards" that allow holders to get cash and buy food, and this new threat to our security.
A cynical man may fear that the government wishes to frighten the populace enough to accept the issuance of national ID cards, unlimited wire tap powers, and the disarming of the populace.

Did you read what I said you nitwit! I said we have to ALWAYS be vigilent. Geez, get a GRIP! I would like to think our intelligence and ability to overcome these threats and terrorist acts is better than those terrorists' ability to whack at us. For gosh sakes! I'm not stupid, are you? ;^D

Anyone remember that thread??? Yes, I remember. I thought about it all day today. The guy said that after Monday (today) the anti-war crowd would change their tune. (paraphrasing here.)

Well, last time it was Anthrax so it is obvious something is coming but the question is what. But don't worry, get on with your life. Geeeeeeeeeeez, anything else happens in this country we better start dropping some really big bombs and send the message that we are not going to be terrorized!
To: right_to_defend
Yes but the anthrax attacks had no connection - they were domestic sourced. Can't tell if your tongue is in your cheek or not....
But that story leaking out of the FBI is just a smokescreen. Nothing points to a domestic source, and everything is pointing to Iraq.

Thanks DJ, your comments are well spoken.
People, we are adults here, we should be glad they are telling us at all. I expect when and if they would get a specific threat as to time/place/method, they could stop it themselves without telling us.
Obviously, they do not have those specific facts but are adult enough to tell us what they do know.
We need to be viligant on the home front and pay attention, that is what they are asking us to do and we should pay attention.
This new war is no laughing matter.

OMG! Yes, and he told the police and said they shrugged off the remarks. Yikes!
Just got e-mail saying stay out of Wal-Mart and planes on Hallowween. Planed that anywho. Candy half price day after.
