Goodness, an assessment we agree on?

Is one of us ill?

LOL

Do you deny that the Industrial Revolution resulted in all new sorts of abuses?

I do.

The "unprecented pollution" you speak of, was solved by technology, not by government controls.

And the child labor you decry was brought about as a function of families seeking to advance their station in life through hard work when no other means of advancement was to be found. I celebrate it, and salute those who worked hard to better themselves. I do not condemn it.

The fact that the Hillary Clintons of the world would have condemned it as "cruel", only makes me appreciate it all the more.

NO OTHER religion can match the theology nor the evidence.

You are obviously a strong believer in things magical and supernatural.

I am not.

I guess we'll just have to differ on the subject.

And that gives value how?

Because a cow cannot be rational, we can slaughter them as we like? But if a cow could suddenly be rational, it becomes wrong?

Yes.

But if a cow could suddenly be rational, it becomes wrong?

Of course.

So a newborn baby, that is incapable of rational thinking is ok to slaughter then. You have no grounds to complain about that.....

Of course not.

They belong to a species (human being) that is rational by nature. They are afforded the same rights (although they must be advocated by a steward) as any other human being.

As a matter of fact, Islamic revolutionaries do not believe that Americans have gone to the moon. They simply refuse to believe it, being resolutely entrenched in their veneration for the moon and in their hatred of modernity.

I know this from listening in Islamic chatrooms on Yahoo.com. It is astounding what some of these people actually believe and practice. Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, documented by the World Health Organization, has been perpetrated upon 25% of all muslimahs (females muslims). That is about 300,000,000 females, most as newborns but many when they were forcibly converted to Islam by muslim husbands. According to Time magazine, American doctors are now reporting increasing numbers of American muslimah children to have had their clitoris removed right here in USA by muslim parents.

So because YOU draw all these arbitrary lines, that should be the standard of "good" and "evil"? OWK's laws of nature...

If humans, in the future, could produce a computer that was rational and could be self aware, would it then become as valuable a "life" as humans?

Arbitrary?

Sorry, but there's nothing arbitrary about them.

What's ironic is that later in the thread OWK admits that he was raised with Christianity, which he obviously has rejected, so his personal choice is an example against his own point.

The difference to me is that most Muslims have no choice - they are considered Muslims from birth and most Islamic countries do not allow denunciation of Islam or conversion to any other faith. Until Muslims have the freedom to choose their own beliefs, OWK's point lacks significant merit, imo.

And sorry about the age of the thread, OWK - I read through a good part of the thread before realizing it was 2 years old, but I figured since it's now generated about 100 new posts, old discussion is fair game. :)

It doesn't work against my point at all.

I spoke of statistical likelihood (which is overwhelmingly in favor of my point).

I granted the obvious presence of exception cases.

From Strong's -

0119 'adam {aw-dam'}

of unknown derivation; TWOT - 26b; v

AV - dyed red 5, red 4 ruddy 1; 10

1) to be red, red
1a) (Qal) ruddy (of Nazarites)
1b) (Pual)
1b1) to be rubbed red
1b2) dyed red
1b3) reddened
1c) (Hiphil)
1c1) to cause to show red
1c2) to glare
1c3) to emit (show) redness
1d) (Hithpael)
1d1) to redden
1d2) to grow red
1d3) to look red

The emphasis seems to be a little more on red than ruddy, at least according to Strong's. Going back now to read the rest of your long, 2-year-old post... :)

My point is that the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of those standing in defense of the "truth" of Christianity on this thread, being the same ones standing in defense of the "truth" of Islam had they been born elsewhere.

There is obviously some truth in what you are saying. But just because 5 people are wrong, doesn't mean the 6th person isn't right. Keep an open mind is all I can say.
