India has ramped up attacks in Kashmir against Pakistani held military outposts. India denied a US request to mediate the J&K disputes so it looks like India wants to go it alone. Too bad India can't wait a little longer so the US can get its job done in Afghanistan before it ramps up its agression. Have the Muslim guerillas taken more offensive actions since 9/11? I thought a lot have been pulled out since the WTC attacks.

The islamic world is trembling on the brink of destruction. Pakistan survives because America is staying India's hand. The United States can barely keep Israel's fist from descending on Palestine. In recent memory, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia were only preserved by US military intervention. The Muslims in Balkans would have been annihilated but for Washington.

Today, 350 Iraquis drowned in the Java sea as they tried to force their way into Australia on an Indonesian-people smuggling boat. In the Philippines, islamic rebels have kidnapped another priest in a nation where they are outnumbered, 8 to 1. Radical islam has lit a fuse in Nigeria, the Moluccas and North Africa and it is burning toward a powderkeg right under their ass.

A huge tragedy is in the making, unless cooler heads can avert it. In the end, the explosion may be inevitable and will give no one joy. President Bush fully understands that the failure of peace may means global casualties in the tens of millions, and many of those may be Americans: your children, your friends, your neighbors.

He is trying to thread the narrow path. God grant that he succeeds. If he fails and the lights are extinguished, God grant us the fortitude to persist until victory.

There was the suicide truck bombing of a state parliament building a few weeks ago that killed over 40. That seems to have pissed off the Indians.

India has ramped up attacks in Kashmir against Pakistani held military outposts...Have the Muslim guerillas taken more offensive actions since 9/11? I thought a lot have been pulled out since the WTC attacks.

There was the suicide attack on the J&K Assembly in Srinagar. And today, the suicide attack on an IAF airbase near Srinagar. The number of incidents may have indeed gone down (since some mujahideen have been reassigned to fight the coalition), but the frequency of fidayeen attacks on high profile targets has gone up. India is pissed.

India denied a US request to mediate the J&K disputes so it looks like India wants to go it alone.

India has always denied all requests for mediation in J&K. That's a matter of policy for them.

Too bad India can't wait a little longer so the US can get its job done in Afghanistan before it ramps up its agression.

That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? India has to strike while the enemy is occupied elsewhere. The truth of the matter is, there can be no political solution to J&K that won't be politically suicidal for the leadership of either side. The best bet for a 'resolution' (of sorts) is in a military encounter that ends in a shifting of the LoC. The public in either country isn't willing to lose an inch without a fight, but they are willing to lose much more than an inch during a fight. It's about honor, not geopolitics. The leadership in India and Pakistan will have to live up to that expectation while they achieve their own (strategic) objectives.

Muslim fanatics vs. people who believe they will be reincarnated.

What exactly is there to prevent these groups from going nuclear?

Nothing, absolutely nothing. They will fight, and they will use everything they have. They always do. They shoot until there are no more shells. Last time it took 3 weeks to use them up. It was rather noisy on the subcontinent.
