I have win98 at the office and find it stable (usually). I bought a new computer for the home recently and it came with winME installed. I have never had such a large piece of sh*t stuck on my hard drive before. I am leery of first generation MS upgrades.

I am running the final (for now) release of XP right now - downloaded it from MSDN subscription - I think it is build 2600 (?) - not 100% on that, but I think that's what I remember. I upgraded from 2000 2 days ago. The install took 4 hours - it was stuck on '24 minutes to go' for about 2.5 hrs, then magically finished the installation. I'm not asking questions :) -- as for performance - very good so far. Haven't had a single problem to speak of as of yet. So far, so good...

I will not upgrade to XP until I can "deactivate" product activation.

I don't think the stability of the product is the major issue, at this point. It's the activation stuff that has many people leery of "upgrading" to XP.
It don't much matter to me as a consumer, as I haven't used Windows regularly since 1993.
As far as my company goes, I hope we can migrate entirely off Windows (we have already done so partially) before being forced to "upgrade" to XP.
