You know that the TV guys don't care about us in the East Bay. If it's not happening in SF, it's just not happening.

Part geography, I agree, but really it's more if it doesn't have anything to do with Glide Memorial Church or "Gay and Lesbian" issues or some other liberal agenda topic it's not happening.

True, if Reverend Cecil Williams had been ordered to 'shelter in place' he'd preach about being oppressed and the local media would be all over it.

It's over ...

Shelter In Place Alert Lifted In Martinez Area

(KCBS) - Officials in Contra Costa County have now lifted a shelter in place alert for the Martinez area. The California Highway Patrol had issued the shelter in place warning Sunday evening after a smoky release from a cracker unit at the Equilon Refinery in Martinez.

Officials say the Level 3 alert, the highest level of incident, lasted for about an hour. Contra Costa County Fire Dispatch officials got calls from people reporting a large plume of smoke and ash and soot falling to the ground in the area.

Maria Duazo, a spokeswoman for Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials, says the countyís emergency sirens were sounded and the shelter in place alert was issued to protect people in the area from breathing in the smoke.

The vent has now been shut off and the all clear has sounded.

A spokesman for Equilon say a non-toxic catalyst material was released in the incident. The refinery unit was in the process of being re-started when the incident happened. An investigative team has been assembled to find out what caused the release.

"Is this another unrelated incident? Or has this happened before?" This kind of crap happens at least once a year.Don't ever buy a house near an oil refinery.

Yes, it does. We blew catalyst several times when we were first starting the catcracker at Mtz. --- ended up painting a lot of cars and paying for some grape crops that were ruined....but it really isn't a big environmental danger.

If level 3 is the highest alert level, what would they do if there were a REAL hazard? Guess they just scare the hell out of you to let you know that the gummit is on top of everything.
