Sharon Warns Bush: Do Not Attack Israel

PM Sharon To Bush: 'Don't Appease The Arabs At Our Expense'

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon held a press conference last night following the downing of the Russian passenger plane over the Black Sea - which took off from Israel's Ben Gurion Int'l airport with mostly Israelis on board - and in the wake of the deadly Arab terrorist attack in Afula which claimed the lives of three Israeli citizens.

Sharon said: "Today a Russian plane en route from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk, carrying 66 passengers and 12 crewmen, went down. This is a terrible tragedy for both Israel and Russia. I spoke today with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and we agreed on full cooperation between Israel and Russia in investigating this tragic incident. I have also instructed Israel's Minister of Transportation, Dr. Ephraim Sneh, to coordinate activities in this regard."

"Today, Israel suffered another heinous Palestinian terrorist attack [in Afula], which took a heavy toll: Three dead and seven wounded. All our efforts to reach a cease-fire have been torpedoed by the Palestinians. The fire did not cease, not even for one day. The Cabinet has therefore instructed our security forces to take all necessary measures to bring full security to the citizens of Israel. We can rely on ourselves only."

"We are currently in the midst of a complex and difficult political campaign. I call on the Western democracies, and primarily the leader of the free world, the United States: Do not repeat the dreadful mistake of 1938, when enlightened European democracies decided to sacrifice Czechoslovakia for 'a convenient temporary solution.' Do not try to appease the Arabs at our expense - this is unacceptable to us. Israel will not be Czechoslovakia. Israel will fight terrorism."

"There is no 'good terrorism' and 'bad terrorism,' as there is no 'good murder' and 'bad murder.' Terrorism, as we witnessed this week in Elei Sinai, is worse than murder. We have been fighting terrorism for over 100 years. Unfortunately, there is no swift and immediate solution, but if we confront this terrorism united, we will be able to overcome it and bring peace. And we shall overcome."

Since the Prime Minister's speech last night, more details surrounding the downing of the passenger plane have been uncovered. While conflicting reports continue to emanate from the Russian media regarding the recovered cockpit of the plane, Russian authorities released an official statement today saying that the door to the cockpit had holes in it which resemble those of bullets. Further examination is necessary to verify that the holes were caused by bullets.

United States officials say that the plane was apparently downed accidentally by a surface-to-air missile during a large-scale Ukrainian military exercise. But, Ukraine says that the plane was far out of range of any missiles used in the exercise.

Sixteen bodies have been pulled from the water. An Israel Air Force Hercules cargo flight with search and recovery teams on board is still awaiting the necessary permits to enable it to takeoff and join the rescue efforts in the Black Sea. An Israel Navy ship will also join the search early next week.

UAE paper plays down US-Israel slanging match

DUBAI, Oct 6 (AFP) -

"A newspaper in the United Arab Emirates Saturday played down the apparent chill in relations between Israel and the United States, describing it as a "scratch" that will quickly heal.

The United States "has a long record of injustice toward the Arabs and their causes," and has invariably been a strong defender of Israel, the Sharjah-based daily al-Khaleej said.

"What is happening right now is a scratch in (US-Israeli) relations, and experience has taught us that such scratches heal rapidly," the paper said.

The United States fired unusually strong criticism at Israel Friday, blasting as "unacceptable" Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's warning not to appease Arabs the way allies did Nazi Germany before World War II.

"The United States' commitments to Israel have invariably been on the rise, and whenever that process stops, it is only to resume at a faster pace," al-Khaleej said."

See? Even the Arabs understand this. Follow the link for more of this article. Enjoy.

The article you posted makes many predictions. It will take years to see if they come true. But certainly, Ari Fleischer's words of yesterday 'Israel has never had a better friend than America, and President Bush' (that's a quote) seems to run counter to your article.

Unless you are calling Ari a liar. Are you?

LOL. You have already posted that article like 6 times on this thread. You are desperate to believe it and convince others of it. It's rather pathetic. You should get a variety of views. Open your mind to many possibilites. I mean some pointy-headed character at that site can hardly understand Middle East policy more than the Arabs themeselves. But why don't you post the one there about how Egypt and the other Arab nations are not cooperating with the USA in the war effort.

I find it so odd that a "Bushie" like you was not posting here until last week or so, when the rest of us were here for years, during the election cycle, supporting him. Did you just get a computer or something?

That appears to be happening to YOU, obviously. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however biased and clouded by anti-Israel animus it is. Once again, this is not new. All these predictions about change were made after the Gulf War too. I don't think you have a very deep grasp of the US-Israel relationship and Israel's "strategic relationship" with the US (Colin Powell's words) - it's not all about oil.

At any rate:

How many times you gonna post that same article? 10 - 20 - 30? You losing it? Awfully early in the day for that. Have a drink. It's early, but I think you need it.

Israel has no better friend than the United States and will have no better friend than the United States," Ari Fleischer said.

Why are you calling Ari a liar? That is a direct quote. Is is because he is a Jew?

Some "supporter" of Bush you are. Fair-weather friend. Maybe Pat Buchanan is more deserving of your loyalty.

Now stop posting the same article over and over and spinning the same dreams. It's, as I said, rather pathetic.

Do you seriously think Taiwan would exist without the US Navy?

That the US supports Taiwan is not the issue here.

How long do you think the US would support Taiwan, if it murdered hundreds of Mainland Chinese children, attacked hundreds of mainland Chinese citizens and killed them without trials, razed homes and farms and started to move Taiwan citizens into mainland territories? Not long! The hue and cry from CNN and the New York Times, and other communist loving media would be horrendous! Yet this is exactly what Israel is doing. IS CNN covering it? Would the New York Times allow a balanced view to come out?

These are the issues; you have not responded to any of my posts documenting the attrocities committed by Israel. You have just made a sorry attempt at obfuscation.

I can find you the proof, and also, Finklestein is a Jewish David Irving.

Can you counter the statements made by Finkelstein and Amnesty International, rather then just giving them labels?

Next thing, you'll say the Jews attacked us on 911. Come on, I know you want to say it! You've already got the "world Jewish conspiracy" shtick cooking. Do you really think Jews will surrender to the likes of you or your Nazi friends?

I made quite a few references to many sources, documenting my position. You, however, have only reduced yourself to labeling.

Could you please come up with some counters to the attrocities quoted in post #108 or the uncalled-for use of lethal force as documented by Amnesty International.

It's so much easier to slap labels on people than to counter documented cases, isn't it?

After getting agreements with Georgia recently, now Russia is also pulling Israel within its orbit of allies, further isolating the US that follows suicidal appeasement formulas. Russia is replaying the pre-WWII scenario, making Russia again look good against the Nazies, the muslim Nazies, that is, while now the US looks like a country avid with oil and supporting the Nazies.

I do not believe the US support Nazies, I do believe however that the US has its political and military guard down and is getting fooled into going for quick and naive coalition solutions instead of conceiving a consistent non-utopic strategy. Worse, everyone is on the left in the US, people not only want social security, but they also want military social security ... indeed, what business in the US has decided to buy AntiAircraft batteries and shelters to be posted around its powerplants and rich buildings? None! Apparently the money entrepreneurs are just that, money entrepreneurs because their entrepreneurialism does not go into self armament. Bush of course is a representation of this government army welfare bunch.

Israel has fought the US before as many FR posts mention. US naval officers are questioned about their willingness to fire upon Israel.

Well, indeed, no one is a fool, and every one knows implicitly, especialy the Israeli security services, that one of the options of the Bush admistration is to give up Israel. A very attractive quick solution to our problems. However, this will mean that the algorithm of operations and relations with the US of the terrorists won't be changed given such success, if it actualy happens.

What we are witnessing is how every one in the US is on the left. We would rather be on welfare protection from terrorists by letting them have Israel, than bear arms ourselves to clean house. It's a welfare mentality deeply ingrained in our business community and effectively hidden by this Microsoftian business "innovation" and "entrepreneurship" front that those companies like to boast. Such attitude is often rationalized under the vague term of "US interests" versus "Israel interests", as if the two were not common. Frankly, why not talk about the "terrorists' interests" either, and are ours more parallel with theirs?
