Some radio stations use a "compression" technology which is designed to eliminate milliseconds of "dead air" which occur continually during a broadcast, even reducing the length of normal pauses in speech patterns. Everything is going digital and maybe apparent "changes" in Rush's voice are caused by some of this stuff.
Pesonally, nothing annoys me more than the digital satellite video feeds from overseas reporters where they look like Max Headroom, or like they're next to a strobe light or something.

Scanning past archives isn't necessary, as I said "Conservatives" not "Republicans".
(There is just a 'bit' of difference between an Olympia Snowe and a Tom DeLay)

Rush is being annoyed by the inane complaints about something that has not changed. He is not becoming annoying. Dittos to that. I haven't noticed anything about his voice and I really have been listening since 1991. I still think we have the "seminar posters" on hand.

Don't do the paranoid rap. I go back to 1989. If you had an older tape, could compare it with today, and haven't been a heavy-metal fan for years, you'd hear it, guaranteed. Sounds like an old man in some pain, on bad days, now. I like Rush; it makes me sad to hear his voice in such bad shape: constantly cracking, unable to do low registers. Sad.

I had heard that Sherwood Schwartz was developing a new "Gilligan's Island" movie. I don't know what his political views are, but if he's leaning towards an all-liberal cast, I'd like to suggest the following:
Michael Kinsley as "Gilligan"
Al Sharpton as "The Skipper"
Al Gore as "The Professor"
Ted Turner as "Thurston Howell III"
Barbara Streisand as "Lovey",
Julia Roberts as "Ginger"
and Jerrold Nadler as "The Island"
(There would be no Mary Ann. I can't imagine any liberal embracing her wholesome, Midwestern, Farm-Girl values)

The voice sounds tight - as if he can't move his vocal chords freely.
