Freep this Poll on the Reagan.com site. The poll currently shows that americans want homosexuals to serve in the military. Obviously most of the people voting in this poll are either homosexuals or they have not served in the military.

Of course not. But I do not see homosexual urges as fundamentally different from those of any other sexual deviation.

And blanket justification of one deviation makes it harder to condemn others. Witness the pedophilic rape scene wildly applauded in the "Vagina Monologues."

I'm not keeping score.. but the media has made a big deal about his grieving "husband"... No, I don't care about the particulars of a hero.. But I wouldn't even have known if his own family hadn't pointed it out.

Understandable, and as I pointed out to Larry, If his family hadn't made an issue of it, I wouldn't have known either. But as someone else pointed out to me, do we want HIV positive people spilling blood everywhere? And to HBFP, NO, all Americans should not be able to serve, if they are not physically and mentally up to the task, we are not all "equal" in reality.

If a Hollywood depiction of how eccentrics add to the military environment is the best argument proving they add to our military strength, than homosexuals are fighting a bigger battle than they think. The only thing realistically portrayed in M*A*S*H was the color of the uniforms. Don't get me wrong, I loved the show, but using it as an illustration of how diversity boosts military capability is a stretch at best. Also, comparing race to sexual preference is a dead issue. There is no comparison. Even if you want to argue sexual preference isn't a choice, you still have to account for the fact that gay men are attracted to men. That is a huge complication in an environment in which men must eat, sleep, shower and @hit within inches of each other for weeks at a time. It doesn't work in prison. It wouldn't work in the military.

I agree, if they want to fight for this country, I think I would let them but maybe in their own wing of the service. I don't think straight men should have to live in close quarters with them, it can be too disruptive unless the gay didn't reveal they were gay.

Now that war is near there is possibly a small rush of male soldiers claiming to be gay, similar to the rush of female soldiers claiming to be pregnant. In times of war, said gay soldiers must stay and fight.

Ya know, I was in the military early 70's. I remember somewhat with disgust in general and yet singular ambivalence towards homosexuals that existed in every unit. There was always at least one in every company.

Actually, the queers I saw in the army were career people and it was their own business; they didn't make waves, just wanted left alone.

I think they will always be in the military, like everywheres else.
