Isn't the reason for the old regulations to keep the planes safe from terrorists? Do you really think a government that needs to steal $1.00 in order to give less than 17 cents to a poor person and can't even balance a 2 trillion dollar budget is capable of keeping you safe?

Re #50 I am afraid that you are the fundamentalist. I know it because I got to know them better while I used to figure out the mind of Marxist zealots. I know many different types of them too. They exists in both right and left of political spectrum. They all fear skepticism like a plague. They have thick skulls with tunnel vision of lemmings. You have more in common with Muslim fundamentalist than the Inspector Callahan. I doubt that you will ever change. The fundamentalist can only change from one extreme to the opposite extreme. No moderations. You may not even know that your mental visions are seriously warped. I think you could make a good suicide terrorist. Want to take a flying lesson ?

"...if a gun went off?"
Theresa, words mean things. Guns do NOT 'go off'. Someone must pull the trigger. Please do not reapeat the lies of the gun grabbers. Thank you.

"Those who believe as our Founders did that people should be free and are quite capable of handling their own affairs. "
Given your totally fundamentalist interpretation of the Founders intentions, to be consistent you have to conceed I have a right to carry a flame thrower on a plane. How bout a machine gun? How bout a big, big butcher knife? I promise I will lay it in my lap and not brandish it. Could I do that?
Fundamentalism is a trap. Do not make the mistake of thinking it is a refuge. We are faced with problems the Founders could not have anticipated. There is no fundamental right to carry a gun or any kind of weapon on a plane that you do not own. There is not even a right to carry on as much luggage as you would like. You are not giving up a constitutionally guaranteed right here. What has happened is that terrorists have made life more complicated for everyone. But this is not a government plot against your right to carry weapons on a plane you do not even own. You never had that right in the first place. Wanna carry a gun on a plane. Fine buy yourself a plane.
I don't care if they strip seach me before I get on a plane. If it keeps someone from crashing a plane into the White House it will be worth it.

When you pull the trigger the gun goes off. Goes off = a projectile comes out of the barrel of the gun at a high rate of speed.

This has little or nothing to do with the crux of this conversation. The point I am making is that I think that it is nuts to claim that the CFR via Dan Quayle and Tom Brokaw are plotting to take away my freedom to carry a gun on a plane.
Yes I do think to a certain extent the government is capable of keeping it's citizens safe. My local government has a police department. Thier job is the safety of the citizens of my town. We have laws here that are designed to keep people safe. For instance traffic laws. I am sure that I been saved many a time by laws that mandate stop signs and red lights and the orderly flow of traffic on highways and on my block. In the same way laws that the federal government makes can keep us safe and has.

Oh stop please. Here's what I am skeptical of....nuts who think the CFR is behind everything. I do not like big government at all. That is why I am a conservative. But I am very skeptical of conspiracy theories that envolve the CFR for crying out loud.

U.S. intelligence received no specific warning, the state of alert had been high during the past two weeks, and a particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft

Do you think that having NO government will keep you safe? We need some government.... the question is how much. As a conservative I think we have too many laws and the government is way too big but I am not such a radical that I think that once a person becomes part of the government then that person can no longer be trusted unless he is a clone of George Washington.

Re #87 CFR is behind most of foreign policy. CFR is a large foreign policy fraternity. I do not believe that they work in total unison. But that institution cultivates particular bias, which is to carve up ever more share of the globe which they want manage or control. They produce most of offcials for foreign affairs. They also have a sway in potential presidential candidates. Not about picking the winner but who becomes the major candidates for both parties. It is wrong to see CFR as the omnipotent, omniscient star chamber but it is also wrong to assume that they do not try to promote their agenda, even outside the government, sometimes from both the left and the right of political spectrum. They do not have allegiance to any party. Their representative to both parties work together to advance the overall agenda.

"keep you safe?"
You're playing that little string of words repeatedly through your ranting spew.
That's in compliment with Brokaw, Russert, Jennings, and Rather saying "loss of freedoms" as their assigned mantra.
Useful idiots? or Part of a Plan?

Call me stupid, ignorant or whatever, but I absolutely refuse to beleive anyone knew exactly what was going to happen and did nothing to stop it, let alone capitalize on it. Where do you get these kinds of thoughts from?

Two men were taken into custody off of a Carnival Cruise line this morning by the feds. This was in Miami. Fox didn't say if they were trying to do something to the ship or if they were just traveling, or if they were just wanted for questioning. Anyone else hear anything on this from other sources?

Thanks for this post. I heard the interview too. I'm not sure what is causing the histrionics on this thread because Shippers is clearly blaming the bureaucracy for the problems in intelligence gathering and interpretation. He implicated Bin Laden in Flt#800 which I hadn't heard before. It was an interesting interview.
Interview is on September 13 in the last half hour or so.

I stand by my comment. I wouldn't think that GWB, GWHB, Reagan or Ford would disagree that there are things that they should have done when viewed from this vantage point. Trying to portray all errors and shortcomings in government as Democratic Party actions and all good in government as Republican Party actions is naive.
