Snow Bunny, YatchClub thanked you for all of them (Nam Vets). May I thank you for the rest of us who could only be there with our kids in spirit and prayer. You are worth a zillion Jane Fondas and will be foremost in the hearts of those who had the priviledge of seeing you. Thanks again for YOUR service to our country. You did good.

Oops. I'm sorry if I gave a mistaken impression. I was never in Viet Nam; I'm just a boomer (female), and remember that era all too well. My son was in the Army for 7 years, but fortunately never saw combat.

...GREG KINNEAR lived with his Movie Counterpart BRUCE CRANDALL before the filming of ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS'.. commenced just to get to know the person he was getting ready to portray on film. Now that's as close to someone as I know of outside of being married to the guy...including your stated 'bayonet close.' I would rely on this group of people's intimate knowledge of the Message of this Movie Script than your "Others."

...It will take a lot more that the litle twerps at CBS' ..'60 Minutes'.. to disband the Brothers of a U.S. 7th Air Cavalry that WON the 7th Cav's 2nd -Battle of the Little Big Horn- that was IA DRANG-1965 ...that proved the Concept of Airmobility in Battle ...laying the basis for our Magnifient Gulf War Victory later on.

...All during our Trip to and then Trips throughout the Central Highlands & Lowlands of a then Free South Vietnam ...LIAR LIBERAL DRAGON ~WALTER CRONKITE~ was lyingly predicting and then reporting to the American People on the CBS ..'Evening News'.. that we would and then did fail in our Mission there.

..~WALTER CRONKITE~ later went on to say that the South should not be a part of the United States of America. FITS. Divide and Conquer the Enemy says.

...His and your efforts to divide our 7th Cav and the Country WILL be what fails.

You talk about "60 Minutes". LOL, I am sorry to laugh but the propaganda machine of 60 minutes lost their steam long ago. It is no longer the cutting edge news story show. It is a joke especially since they did such a patched up fake atory so called interview of Bill and his ever lovin LAMP THROWIN' marxist commie wife Hitlery. They edited that pharse to the max.

I would never put any hopes in the media. Even Fox News that is pretty good has liberal leaning O'Reilly and they just got rid of liberal Paula Zahn. So sorry, do not trust the media to ever do the right thing and tell the truth on most shows.

"His and your efforts to divide our 7th Cav and the Country WILL be what fails. ".... good God, man... I'm not trying to divide the Cav... I'm lamenting the poor job Randall Wallace did in writing this film... if the Cav becomes divided, it will be because of this film, because this film disses the 2nd of the 7th... the Hard Core will not like this... don't think you'll be seeing many of them at the reunions once this film hits the screen.

Thank You, so very very much, Snow Bunny, for the flag on this post.

R.W.'s letter, especially his statement: "Well this time we mean to get it right"....gives those who have been there hope the real story will be known.

Ironic isn't it, that an Aussie like Mel Gibson is willing to put his production and buck$ on the line, where many Hollywood (and so-called American citizens), fear to tread.

Silly me, those Hollywood production types are closet socialists and pink to thier under cooked chicken bones.

Mel is the real deal. This flick will be a blockbuster. Clear thinking Americans will never be duped. They'll continue to reward truth when they see it.

And truth is rare today. It frightens to many to be acceptable.

Best FReegards.

Mang Buk, consisted of several small Montagnard villages around a small lake (pond), main basecamp and runway, located in a tiny little valley. On a map, picture Dak Seang upper left, Kontum lower bottom and Mangbuk upper right forming a letter 'V'. This puts the place some distance from the Laos border, up in the north west corner of Kontume province. It was far more remote than any of the places on the Laotian border.

Basicly, Maing Buk was surrounded by NVA held territory (including a known NVA travel R & R area, as I had been told). There was some what of an unofficial truce in the area, which occasionally got broken. For the few Americans living there, life was great. Hunting, fishing and generally enjoying the Montagnard hospitality, with the beautiful scenery, made it into an absolutely unbelievable remote dreamland.

In the center of the main camp, was a real down to earth, almost homely, underground bunker complex that was really neat. Guards at the gate by the runway, and on the perimeter, were children with M1carbines and m16s (rifles being taller than the guards).

Absolutely no Vietnamese anywhere, anytime. Not to visit, inspect, or otherwise. Also absolutely no theft. It was impossible to get these people to keep something they found that no longer had an owner. The only draw back one might say, was the total absence of prostitutes.

I doubt it was an ASA listening post. I was never in any kind of loop to know about any mission there. I just know that the only Americans located there, were SF personnel.
