When I lived in CA, I enjoyed weekend trips to Santa Barbara, but that was 40yrs ago, before the homeless explosion. Have they cleaned it up?
Have you heard about the evacuation nightmares? We lived in Florida (St. Petersburg) for 30+ years and moved out 10 years ago. Too much traffic, too expensive insurance and taxes.
Loved it while we were there and miss it in the winter but our hearts and home are in Tennessee now.
I wonder if the crime rate in Oakland is still bad or if it might have improved?
“But it’s a dry h—(interrupted by rain falling) Oh, f**K, I’m leaving.”
Don’t believe everything you read about Florida’s affordability.
We actually know a number of older couples who’ve now moved out of the allegedly affordable state.

The insurance issue drove my sister and BIL out of FL and to TN. And the traffic.
The racial and ethnic demographics of Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) for the student population, based on the most recent data from the 2021–2022 school year (approximately 254,732 students in grades PK, K-12 across 326 schools and education centers), are as follows:
• Hispanic or Latino: 38.0% (~96,798 students)
• Black or African American: 38.1% (~97,053 students)
• White (Non-Hispanic): 17.3% (~44,069 students)
• Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander: 3.6% (~9,170 students
) • Two or More Races: 2.6% (~6,623 students)
• American Indian or Alaska Native: 0.2% (~509 students)
• Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander: 0.2% (~509 students)
Notes: • These figures are sourced from the U.S. News Education report for 2021–2022, reflecting the diverse student body of BCPS.
• Earlier data (2020) from the Florida Department of Education showed slightly different proportions: 38% Hispanic, 33% White, 23% Black, and 4% Asian, indicating a trend toward a higher proportion of Black and Hispanic students over time.
• The district’s diversity mirrors Broward County’s minority-majority demographics, with significant representation from Caribbean (e.g., Haitian, Jamaican) and Latin American (e.g., Cuban, Colombian) communities.
Tampa is nice, however HOAs are crap. Traffic is lousy, but you can boat to dinner (or to a hockey game) any time of the year.
How many of the best cities have Republican mayors and how many of the worst cities have Democrat mayors? I think there’s a nugget there that future voters need to think about.
Is the West Coast of Florida tolerable to live? Because I can’t even visit the east coast of Florida anymore. It is overwhelmingly crowded and stifling. Hours long waits for any kind of restaurant and insane traffic.
I hope it’s not ruined. As said, I avoid southern CA though I have to go there once a year for a conference. Haven’t been to SB in about 20 years

RE: If Florida was affordable I’d be living there now.
Many cities and towns were relatively nice and affordable until folks in the big blue cities “discovered” them and started moving in.

Ha
Tucson is Bezerkley with cactus.
That was University Drive for me. Oakland Park Blvd was being widened from Inverrary to University Drive when I moved there.
