Yes, in many things like education, you can book the savings. Remember the budget is so much higher than it was 5 years ago before COVID. There is no reason in the world that the US government needs to spend at these levels. The US could easily spend as much as 20% less. The biggest issue is that the US government spending less is depressive on the economy. So Tariffs work as a way to tax the world and put the revenue in the US coffers. Tariffs add friction to world trade while US manufacturing appears smoother. Add to that tax breaks and cheaper energy and you are creating two economies. One inside the US and the rest of the world. The worlds benefit to this strategy is that China has to become an engine for the world. Up til now they have been the fuel, making product that they themselves do not consume. Locking off the US from much of the foreign world forces trade changes. China had plugged into the US in a hundred ways from colleges to politicians to ports to Amazon and Walmart and even our mail. Cutting them off forces change. It will cost China a lot. They have to change, either find a new consumer or start consuming themselves.
His brother Mike held that seat previously. Sadly, he declined to run in 2016 for health reasons, he passed away of cancer in 2020 at 56. He was a decent guy, a “moderate” Republican.
Brian ran in his stead, and I’m sure most voters had no idea he wasn’t the same person. Even some congressional rating sites didn’t realize that either.
The only serious primary challenge Brian had was in 2020 by a MAGA Republican Andrew Meehan.
Fitzpatrick made fake racism claims against Meehan with the support of the county Republican grandees, calling him a “Nazi”. Does that sound familiar?
Fitzpatrick ably demonstrated in all this that he is nothing but a scumbag.

Thankfully, I ended up with Elise Stefanik as my representative last summer when redistricting gave her my city of Rome, NY. Unfortunately, I have Schumer and Gillibrand as my Senators.
