Thank you!
But what about redundancy?
What if the switch/es should break?
I’d be amazed if there isn’t a another way to operate whatever cuts off the flow of fuel to the engines.
Nope, only those two ways to shut off fuel. Also, even if the all fuel pumps. (different than the fuel control levers) are turned off the engines should run based on gravity/suction feed.
You didn’t watch it.
Fuel to the engines of the Air India plane involved in a deadly crash was cut off moments after take-off
DEI pilot got the order of operation things wrong
Of course, we are all relying on the reporting here ... never a sure thing.
On another thread, someone with a handle that implied pilot stated the engine restart checklist sequence includes fuel flow off, fuel flow on, ignite. That might be plausible if we had other info ignored by the reporters when they jumped on the easiest explanaton.
BUT
there is the “did you, I didn’t” recording. Much has been said about the difficulty in operating these switches. But consider that to do so simultaneously would take both hands and hardly go unnoticed. Also consider the mention of the detents and the need to lift the switches.
What if the switches were never fully in the on position??? IOW, what if the detents were not doing their thing. Rotate up and both switches move simultaneously? Spring loaded? Gravity? I could buy that.
I’d like to think we have too many reporters jumping onto a flashy headline with no knowledge to really understand the possibilities.
One of the reasons I wouldn’t fly on a plane in Vietnam if I couldn’t see the pilot’s head above the pilot’s seat. Just a little inexperience, miscommunication, etc. and you could be a statistic.
Thanks....I was wondering if one was Mohammed.
I watch Captain Steeeve, so I get that. :-)
But, folks, there’s a dog that isn’t barking...
The families of the pilots.
Their loved ones are being fingered for this.
Have they made any kind of public statement?
And if you’re one or more governments, airline manufacturers, engine manufacturers, airlines...
Which story would you rather have the flying public fixating on...
One or two incompetent/mentally unstable pilots in the cockpit...
Or someone who has the ability to remotely bring down a passenger plane at will.
The biggest problem for me is that there is no Deep State on this planet I trust to tell the truth about anything.
Including this.
I feel for anyone who feels they have to fly.
“Nope, only those two ways to shut off fuel. Also, even if the all fuel pumps. (different than the fuel control levers) are turned off the engines should run based on gravity/suction feed.”
Jet engines require fuel pressures over 1000 psi for injection.
And with a two person crew, duplicate switches at the flight engineer’s station aren’t a thing...
Where’s the redundancy?
I feel sorry for you.
The NTSB here, is probably the most LEAST politically affected organization. They do great work. Can’t speak for other countries investigations.
“And with a two person crew, duplicate switches at the flight engineer’s station aren’t a thing...”
787 does not have a flight engineer station.

Blancolirio analysis of preliminary report, most detailed I’ve seen.
“What if the switches were never fully in the on position???”
The engines would not start.
“I’d like to think we have too many reporters jumping onto a flashy headline with no knowledge to really understand the possibilities.”
I think too many posters have no knowledge to really understand the possibilities.
“DEI pilot got the order of operation things wrong”
There is no step in take off sequence to shut off the engines!
“I’d be amazed if there isn’t a another way to operate whatever cuts off the flow of fuel to the engines.”
The engine fire extinguisher switches also cut off fuel flow but that is irrelevant in this event.
“Nope”
See my 139.
