The standard deduction was increased for 65 and over. More seniors 65 and over will not have a filing requirement. Does not help people with social security income under 65 (early retirement and ssdi).

The next Congressional foci need to be Democrat corruption (Comey, Brennan, et al.) and stolen elections.

“””I said that last night and was corrected—that No Tax on Social Security was in the bill. So one of Trump’s Campaign promises will not be fulfilled. That will disillusion a lot of people that voted for him for that reason alone.”””

I collect SS and I am not disillusioned at all. I am very happy about this.

I had never heard of him, and I don’t expect his career to last very long.

Let’s hope they’re really serious about this. Even just, say, 2/3rds of them out, at upwards of 40 million, would restore this country. (But I want them ALL out, without any work amnesties for labor groups to submarine American labor groups.)

This bill will contribute to a cultural shift away from reliance on welfare by emphasizing work and self reliance. Able bodied? Then work at least 20 hours each week to be eligible for SNAP and Medicaid.

“ The no tax on Social Security was stripped out and replaced by increasing the standard deduction for people on SS. I don’t know by how much and how it would work.”

I wish that politicians, including Trump, would stop saying that there will be no tax on Social Security because there are going to be a lot of people very unhappy when they find out next April that an income deduction is very different from no tax.

For a simplified example. A person in a 20% bracket who gets a $6000 income deduction gets a $1200 tax deduction. It is also on a sliding scale so that above a certain income, there will be no decrease in their tax on Social Security.

I'm not thrilled with the deficit spending but the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step and this is the first down a very long path to MAGA

This gives Republicans a great chance to not just keep the House and Senate but maybe win working majorities.

And frankly, the elephant in the room is entitlement spending and you can only cut entitlements spending so far so fast.

The Trump Administration can make huge gains in reducing entitlement spending in the first year by removing the ineligible recipients riding the system, removing non citizens who make up a huge fraction of our entitlement spending, re establishing the work fare requirements that Obama refused to enforce but are still on the books , the DOGE to cut fraud and abuse on the expenditure side.

In the revenue side The Trump Administration plan to drive aggressive economic growth and restore income growth will help get people off welfare and back to work
