You cannot add that in this bill. The only way you can is going traditional and get 60 votes. Good luck! Trump wanted this so he has to accept the restrictions.
It didn’t work well. People would work until the approval and then quit. By the time they caught them, it was years later. They took a job, got reapproved and quit again and on and on.
Thankfully this mess isn’t implemented until after midterms. Hopefully republicans can put lipstick on this pig for the election at least.
Little secret, for ya. Many on Medicaid already work. They game the system to get free healthcare paid by your tax dollars. 10 illegals live in a house. They all work under the table, claiming no income. Changing the law to make them work, changes nothing but they will now report one of them works.
This is the Florida Reemployment Tax reporting form RT-6:
https://floridarevenue.com/Forms_library/current/rt6.pdf
10. EMPLOYEE’S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
11. EMPLOYEE’S NAME (please print first twelve characters of last name and first eight characters of first name in boxes)
12a. EMPLOYEE’S GROSS WAGES PAID THIS QUARTER
Adults who work will generally have either unemployment tax withheld or will have to make federal self-employment tax payment (if they make over $400/quarter I believe).
Medicaid eligibility for people over age 20 might be made dependent on receipt of:
1. federal disability income,
2. state unemployment tax payment and/or self-employment tax payment for at least $3000 in earnings in the five prior quarters if under age 23 (college students can easily work paid jobs in summer), or for at least $4000 in earnings in the three most recent reported quarters if not, or
3. FICA/SE tax payment of at least $1200 looking back up to 12 quarters.
This determination could be made by computer.
The bill’s work requirement is both difficult to track and doesn’t take into account the often-fickle nature of employment.
“You cannot add that in this bill. The only way you can is going traditional and get 60 votes. Good luck! Trump wanted this so he has to accept the restrictions.”
Here’s what might be done:
The following provisions of this act shall not apply to any person resident in a state in a tax year if illegal aliens retain eligibility for the Medicaid program benefits in the state during the tax year:
1. the tip exclusion
2. the overtime income exclusion
...
Remember, about the only people that get overtime are unionized employees that the Democrats crave the votes of. The unionized employees vote, the illegals can’t (at least in most states).
The Trump tax cuts don’t have to be fully continued either.
If the deficit of a future fiscal year goes above $1 trillion, the tax rate inflation adjustment might be proportionately decreased.
A $1.5 trillion deficit might see the tax rate inflation adjustment cut by 50%.
Illegals do that and no sane person believes illegals should be getting Medicaid.
But, then there are women like this:
https://kffhealthnews.org/news/article/medicaid-work-requirements-missouri-mom-caregiver-son-expansion-bill/?share=print&nb=1
Four years before Kimberly Gallagher enrolled in Medicaid herself, the public health insurance program’s rules prompted her to make an excruciating choice — to give up guardianship of her son so she could work as his caregiver.
Now, another proposed twist in the rules could mean that, even though Missouri pays her to do that work, she might still have to prove to the state that she’s not unemployed.
The Kansas City, Missouri, resident has cared for her disabled son, Daniel, for all 31 years of his life. A rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi syndrome, in addition to autism, left him with an intellectual disability; a constant, excessive hunger; and an inability to speak. His needs left Gallagher, an elementary school teacher by training, with little opportunity to work outside her home.
As congressional Republicans consider slashing about $1 trillion in federal Medicaid spending, Gallagher is among the 18.5 million Americans who could be required to prove that they work enough to keep their health insurance.
Budget bills in the House and Senate would require 80 hours of work or community service a month for adults who are insured through the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion program, which has allowed states to extend Medicaid coverage to more adults with low incomes. Forty states, plus Washington, D.C., have expanded their programs, additions that now cover about 20 million Americans, including Gallagher.
She enrolled in the coverage in December 2023, after she could no longer afford her private insurance. Before her husband died of cancer in 2019, the couple paid for private insurance and supported themselves on the income he earned as a master watchmaker. After his death, Gallagher was left to earn a living and find insurance on her own. At 59, she’s too young to collect her husband’s Social Security survivor benefit.

Almost anyone would think she's more worthy of taxpayer money than the money we waste on pork barrel spending or money to foreign countries and wars that have nothing to do with our national security.
There are going to be plenty of stories like that Republicans are going to be blamed for. That will result in one two things -- reforms to the system that bring market forces back into healthcare or single payer/universal healthcare.
It was similar here-a client’s work related injury was covered 100% by workers comp-but the benefits were their income until they were able to return to work. So their share of the cost of medicaid for everything else was based on that. once they returned to work, their income was usually too much for them to qualify for medicaid any more. Anyone rated 100% disabled was considered unemployable and did not have a cost share of medicaid. Same for over 65 and disabled with no medicare benefits.
“Illegals do that and no sane person believes illegals should be getting Medicaid.”
The problem is that the EMTALA law provides illegal aliens medical services. At Medicaid pays the hospitals for some of it where EMTALA pays nothing.
I doubt this. So only 8% unemployment among medicaid recipients, doubtful.
It worked fine if you were a good case manager and did your job. You don’t just turn clients loose with any financial benefits being paid by someone else, whether the govt or workers comp insurance-at least 40%-50% of them are going to attempt to cheat. You never forget to follow up on a client at least once a month...
I followed up several times per month on clients-including surprise home visits to the ones I thought were potential scammers. One client who claimed a lifting limitation of 25 lbs was running a lawnmower repair shop in his garage-he was lifting a riding mower out of a customer’s truck when I showed up-sorpresa...
The worker safety training I do now is much easier.
There needs to be more responsible monitoring of those getting medicaid-hell, for the right price-I have my credentials and 30 years experience-I’d go back to case management in my state, as contract labor. Hiring experienced case managers is way cheaper than defending laziness with taxpayer money to avoid the blame game...
Reading through some of the comments by others here about what goes on with medicaid scamming now, it appears that there are no more case managers or eligibility workers any more-if they are, they are not required to do much...
The fix is to change the law so that people receiving Medicaid must pay a flat 5% income tax and lose all tax credits. Paying for your health care is good for all of us. There is no free lunch. IMHO.
That would work if all the howling and pushback from ‘rats could be overcome-but I just saw that the BBB just passed the house-so maybe there is hope. I’m a person over 70 who works for a living and likes it-like everyone I pay for medicare every month, even though I haven’t used it-and if I make really good money in a year, I still pay even more into the system-so yes-let others pay, too...
Anyone rated 100% disabled was considered unemployable and did not have a cost share of medicaid
That depended on their income. Usually SSI/SSP or Social Security disability. I forget what the threshold was but any income over that amount resulted in a share of cost. Could be $1 to $1000 per month. The share of cost was on a monthly basis.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is expected to add $3.9 trillion to the federal deficit over the next 10 years,”
Only if you believe the fake CBO scoring!
